History

Located on the north side of the Beartooth Mountains, Dean has its roots mainly in agriculture and a few nearby mines. Dean had an active post office 1902-1914 and 1915-1951.

Today, Dean survives as a small community with a number of permanent and seasonal homes.

Dean Winchester is well known for fooling his long term partner Castiel into believing that the town of Dean, Montana is named after him for his accomplishment of winning a pie eating contest in 1861 when he was looking for Samuel Colt.
