The Onyx Group is a UAE based group of companies that have variety of business interests.[1] There are five major companies under the Onyx Group, and these include Nilona Holdings, Onyx Industries, Onyx Building Systems, Nilona Caterers, and Ceylon Steel Corporation.[2] The Chairman of the Onyx Group is Nandana Lokuwithana.[3]
Business interests
- In 2003 the Onyx Group was established in Sharjah, U.A.E, with Onyx Industries, Building Systems and Onyx Logistic Services.[4]
- In 2009 the Onyx Group acquired Ceylon Heavy Industries and Construction Co. (CHICO), which was subsequently rebranded as the Ceylon Steel Corporation.[5]
- In 2014 the Onyx Group constructed the Marriott Al Jaddaf Hotel, for Marriott International, the first five star hotel built and owned by a overseas based Sri Lankan.[6]
- In 2016 the Onyx Group made an unsuccessful US$261 million bid to acquire Holcim Lanka.[7][8]
