National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.

It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and conducts the degree course in Homoeopathy i.e. Bachelor in Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery (B.H.M.S.) since 1987 and Post - Graduate course i.e. Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy (M.D.(Hom.)) in 6 subjects viz 1.Organon of Medicine, 2.Repertory 3.Homoeopathic Materia Medica, 4. Homoeopathic Pharmacy 5. Practice of medicine 6. Paediatrics Above 3 were since 1998-99. Later the latter ones were added.[2][3][4][5]

The Institute has a 250-bed hospital, with 10 for surgery and 10 for maternity cases.

History

National Institute of Homoeopathy was established on 10 December 1975 in Kolkata as an Autonomous Organisation under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The then Institute building was located at 118 Amherst Street, Kolkata 700 009. Later it was shifted to the present location.[6]
