Marcos César Dias de Castro (born 27 August 1958), better known as Marcos Paquetá, is a Brazilian former footballer who played as a central midfielder. He is nicknamed Marcos Paquetá because he was born in Paquetá Island.
Career
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he played for América (RJ) (from 1973 to 1978) and Vasco da Gama (from 1978 to 1980).[1]
Coaching career
As a coach, he managed América (RJ) in 1987, Al-Shabbab of the United Arab Emirates in 1988 and in 1989, and has also managed Flamengo from 1990 to 1998 and from 2001 to 2003, Fluminense from 1999 to 2000, Avaí in 2004 and Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia in 2004 and in 2005. Following his success with Al-Hilal, Paquetá was handed the job of coaching the Saudi national team in the 2006 World Cup.[2] In 2007 he signed with Qatar Stars League side Al-Gharafa, leading them to the league title twice and the Sheikh Jassem Cup.
In 2003, as the Brazilian coach, he won both the U-17 World Championship and the U-20 World Championship. He was head coach of Al-Rayyan for a season, and in July 2010, he signed a two-year contract to become manager of the Libya national football team.[3]
In June 2012, Paquetá signed a contract to take over UAE Pro-League outfit Al Shabab.[4]
On 7 June 2014, Paquetá returned for a second spell as manager of Al-Gharafa, signing a two-year deal.[5]
In December 2015, Paquetá signed a contract with Egyptian club Zamalek SC. on 3 Jan 2015, he was relieved of his duties because Mortada Mansor was not satisfied about his management to the team in Maksa's match .[6]
