Kannamangalam is a panchayat town in Tiruvanamalai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Places with the suffix "mangalam" were believed to have been given as charity to the "Brahmins" by the Kings of a particular reign, "Kannamangalam" was thus named by the same criteria. From the names of locations in the surrounding areas it is further clear that the villages were predominantly Brahmin habitations, with names like Kolathur, Onnupuram etc. In the last millennium, Kannamangalam was under the rule of "Sambuvarayar".
