The Girls Just Want to Have Fun soundtrack was released in 1985 on vinyl and cassette in the U.S. on the PolyGram Records/Mercury Records label, but failed to gain a Compact Disc release. Only Germany received the Compact Disc release on the Mercury Records/PolyGram Records label.

The Compact Cassette was still widely available until being discontinued in 2000 when Mercury Records label was retooled by its parent company Universal Music Group and PolyGram Records was purchased by Universal Music Group.
