Geneva Business School (GBS) is a private business school in Switzerland (Geneva) with campuses in Spain (Barcelona), Kazakhstan (Astana), Russia (Moscow), United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA); USA (Boston), China (Chengdu).

History

Established 1995 in Geneva, the IFGP (Institut de Formation en Gestion du Patrimoine) marks the origin of Geneva Business School (GBS). Today IFGP is owned by GBS and continues to provide instruction to local Swiss private bankers.[1]

In 2001, the University of Finance was created to provide education in international banking and finance. Over time, other institutions merged into the school. The University of Business & Finance Switzerland (UBFS) of Wettingen transferred its programs into the school in 2009. Around the same time the programs of Business & Management University (BMU) were also transferred into the school. In 2010, the name Business & Management University was replaced by the name Geneva Business School (GBS).

Since 2012, GBS has opened campuses in Spain (Barcelona), Kazakhstan (Astana), Russia (Moscow), United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA); USA (Boston)and China (Chengdu).

Academic programs

GBS offers several undergraduate and graduate business education programs leading to bachelor, master or doctoral qualifications. All GBS programs, worldwide, are taught in English. The Geneva Business School BBA, MSc, MBA and DBA degrees offer specializations in Business Administration, Global Banking and Finance, International Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Sports Management and Marketing, International Relations, Digital Marketing, Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management, Oil & Gas Management, Islamic Finance, Healthcare Management, Information Technology and Business Analytics, Marketing Management, Healthcare Management, Educational Leadership & Management, Quality Management, Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Human Resource Management and Project and Operations Management.

GBS offers a dual degree program with the INSEEC Business School (Chambéry, France).

Geneva Business School operates a dual diploma program with the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan. KBTU ranked in the top 100 universities in the QS University Rankings: EECA 2015 for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in 2015.[2] An international cooperation exists between GBS and the Almaty Management University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The GBS Geneva campus has accreditation for its business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and is listed in the IACBE members accredited list. Accredited programs are the Master of Science in Finance (M.Sc), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Finance (BF) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).[3]

The GBS Spain Campus in Barcelona has accreditation for its business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and is listed in the IACBE members accredited list.[4]

The GBS Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Campuses in Dammam and Riyadh has accreditation for their business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and is listed in the IACBE members accredited list.[5]

The GBS United Arab Emirates Campuses in Sharjah and Fujairah has accreditation for their business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and is listed in the IACBE members accredited list.[6] The GBS Kazakhstan Campus in Astana has accreditation for its business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and is listed in the IACBE members accredited list.[7]

The United States Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) notes GBS as a program accredited by a recognized U.S. Accrediting Organization.[8]

The European Council for Business Education (ECBE) also accredits the four GBS programs (Bachelor in Business Administration, Bachelor in Finance, Master of Science in Finance and MBA.[9]

The Swiss quality label for education institutions EduQua awarded its label to Geneva Business School.[10]

Geneva state authorization to operate was issued to GBS for Management in 2001 and in 2002 for Languages.

Geneva Business School has been an accredited institution on the World Higher Education Database (WHED) of the International Association of Universities (IAU) WHED since 2013. IAU was founded in 1950 and is the UNESCO based worldwide association of higher education institutions. IAU maintains the Worldwide Database of Higher Education Institutions, Systems and Credentials known as the "World Higher Education Database" (WHED).

Geneva Business School is registered on the Swiss Private School Register.[11]

As of 1 January 2015 Swiss university accreditation landscape is undergoing significant change.[12]"The Swiss Agency of Accreditation and Quality Assurance (AAQ) replaced the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ) as of 1 January 2015." [12] Universities in Switzerland are no longer accredited by the now defunct Swiss OAQ. "all educational institutions that use the designation “university”, “university of applied sciences” or “university of teacher education” are now legally bound to undergo an institutional evaluation." [12] This includes both previously so-called "private" and "state universities".

In Russia, Geneva Business School is not recognized as a higher education institution by the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science (National Information Center on Academic Recognition and Mobility from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation).[13]

GBS students come from all corners of the world and currently represent over 50 nationalities.

In Germany, as a realignment of its activities, The University of Business & Finance Switzerland (UBFS) of Wettingen concentrated all its master and bachelor courses at its campus in Geneva as from January 2009, and discontinued its activities at Wettingen. The last degrees awarded by UBFS Wettingen was in spring 2010. The University of Business & Finance Switzerland (UBFS) of Wettingen had the status of H- Nichtanerkannte Institution in the German Anabin database, indicating UBFS was not accredited as university in Germany nor recognized.[14] The programs of UBFS Geneva was operated by and ultimately merged into the Geneva Business School programs(formerly BMU Business & Management University).

Rankings

November 2016, GBS awarded the 2 Palms of Excellence ranking by Eduniversal Ranking. GBS now features among the top ten in this ranking for Business Schools and Universities in Switzerland.

In 2016, GBS was ranked number 3 in Switzerland and within the top 100 global business school rankings for executives and entrepreneurs in the CEOWORLD magazine's global business school rankings for executives and entrepreneurs, 2016 [15] The ranking aims to provide an objective assessment of the world’s best business schools, evaluated across inter-alia academic reputation, admission eligibility, job placement rate and specialization and surveys more than 120,000 individuals in an extensive poll, including 22,500 students, 45,000 industry professionals, and 52,500 recruiters around the world.

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities, ranks GBS among the top universities in Switzerland.

Affiliations and partnerships

Geneva Business School is a member of FEDE (European Federation of Schools), the Swiss Federation of Private Schools, the Central and East European Management Development Association (CEEMAN) and the Geneva Association of Private Schools.[16] [17]
