|Start point||Speak to the Odd Old Man, located at the end of the northern path in central Silvarea.|
|Description||An archeological bone gathering quest. Requires the start and/or completion of multiple quests. Lots of creatures and animals necessary to be scavenged for specific bones, that will then need to be cleaned and given to the Odd Old Man for his marvelous collection of bone remains.|

Overview[edit | edit source]
- The monsters you need to kill are mentioned on the Wish List that is pinned to the Odd Old Man's house as well as in your quest journal. Monsters are only removed from these lists after the bones have been properly turned in to the Odd Old Man.
- Each monster on the list has a 1/4 chance to drop the bone you need.
- It is possible to hand in the collected bones in smaller batches. The Odd Old Man will kindly update the wish list, taking off the bone(s) you've submitted.
- It is possible to collect the basilisk bone without 20 Defence, but you must freeze the basilisk or safespot it.
- Due to the variety of monsters you're required to kill, it may be a good idea to simply start the quest, especially early in your adventures, and collect some of the bones while traversing Gielinor (or training skills, such as Slayer).

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]
This walkthrough can be completed in any order. It's sectioned by distance to the starting location of the quest (the Odd Old Man's house) and also by what bones are most easily found in that particular area. Traverse from area to area in whatever way is most convenient for you. The determining factor will be the traveling methods (gnome glider, fairy rings) and teleports you have access to or prefer to use.
Further, the below guide only exists to group various monsters together and create a sensible path (even if walking the distance) to collect all of the bones. Use the above list or view the individual pages for the monsters to see other possible locations they can be found at.
Note: You do not have to bring all of the bones to the Odd Old Man at once. If at any point you obtain a bone or collection of bones and wish to turn them in, you can jump to the polishing the bones section in order to do so.
Odd Old Man's house[edit | edit source]
- Items required: None.
- Recommended: Teleportation method to the Odd Old Man (Varrock teleport, Digsite pendant) if traveling here again after the quest already started.
- Travel method: Bats are flapping about right by the Odd Old Man. The first bone can be obtained in the same exact location as the quest start. Teleport to Varrock or the Digsite and walk north-east if coming here at a later time. Alternatively, bats can also be found in other locations, such as in front of the Slayer Tower or the Wilderness. Giant bats do not drop bat wings.
Morytania[edit | edit source]
- Items required: None.
- Recommended: Teleportation method to northern Morytania (ectophial).
- Travel method: If you're using the ectophial, travel to Port Phasmatys and travel west. If not, start in reverse order from fairy ring CKS or walking east from the Odd Old Man's location. Another way to reach Morytania is using Kharyrll Teleport from Ancient Magicks or POH portal. The undead cows are just west of the Ectofuntus, within the farm. Then, travel west and go under Fenkenstrain's Castle by pushing the easternmost memorial in the graveyard south-east of the castle to find the experiments underneath (see the Creature of Fenkenstrain quest guide). Travel south-west to Canifis where many level 88 werewolves are located. They can be safespotted in the bar with a Ranged or Magic weapon. If you otherwise don't want to attack a level 88 werewolf, you can attack one of the level 24's in Canifis with Wolfbane, and when they are almost dead, switch to another weapon. They will change into a werewolf with low life points and may drop the bones. Finally, travel south-west towards the Paterdomus temple entrance to find ghouls.
- It is also a good idea to buy a mirror shield, some ice coolers, several fishing explosives, and (optionally) a spiny helmet from the Slayer Master in Canifis while you are here.
Misthalin[edit | edit source]
- Items required: Slash weapon (for the sewer webs).
- Recommended: Teleportation method to Varrock or Edgeville.
- Travel method: All of the monsters in this section can be found in the Varrock Sewers, which can be entered in either Varrock (just south east of the eastern entrance of Varrock Palace) or directly south of Edgeville. To get to one of the entrances, use a Varrock teleport, go to Edgeville by using an amulet of glory teleport, fairy ring, using Home Teleport (with the Ancient Magicks spellbook active) and the canoe system, or by using the spirit tree in the Grand Exchange. (Note: You will need a knife or other sharp object to cut through the spiderweb blocking the way to the moss giant area if unable to use level 51 Agility shortcut near Vannaka).
- If you've not already done so, buy a mirror shield, some ice coolers, several fishing explosives, and (optionally) a spiny helmet from the Slayer master in Edgeville while you are here.
Lumbridge[edit | edit source]
- Items required: Light source (preferably a lantern).
- Recommended: Tinderbox (to re-light your light source), spiny helmet or Slayer helmet (if traveling through the Lumbridge Swamp Caves), teleportation method to Lumbridge.
- Travel method: Teleport to Lumbridge, head into Lumbridge Castle, and, with a lantern, climb through the hole in the kitchen's cellar (requires partial completion of The Lost Tribe). From here, "follow" Kazgar to the end of the Dorgesh-Kaan mines, where many cave goblins can be found (cave goblin miners and cave goblin guards will also drop the skull). Alternatively, walk south and squeeze through the other hole. Go south towards the area full of rockslugs; then, head east towards the goblins, found at the far east of the Lumbridge Swamp Caves. You could also (especially if The Lost Tribe has not been started or completed yet) enter the Lumbridge Swamp Caves via the entrance in the Lumbridge Swamp and walk to the far eastern part of the caves. A spiny or slayer helmet is recommended to protect against wall beasts if this route is taken.
Nardah[edit | edit source]
- Items required: Ice coolers, waterskins.
- Recommended: Desert clothing, teleportation method to the Kharidian Desert (specifically Nardah).
- Travel method: Use the fairy ring (code: DLQ) to get to the Nardah hunting area. Alternatively, use a ring of dueling or Lumbridge teleport and travel south through the Kharidian Desert, either walking or using magic carpets to the necessary locations. There are jackals on the way to the level 42 lizards (if traveling north from Nardah or the fairy ring). You need to use ice coolers on the lizards when their health is depleted for the kill. After these, walk south west to find vultures (located just north west of the Agility Pyramid). If the vultures fly, you will need to use Ranged or Magic attacks. You can find jackals near the vultures as well.
- While you're here, if you happen to see desert snakes (or would prefer to look for them), you can kill them for a snake spine (instead of getting one on Karamja).
Port Sarim[edit | edit source]
- Items required: Fishing explosives.
- Recommended: Teleportation method to Port Sarim.
- Travel method: Minigame teleport to Port Sarim Rat Pits if you have completed Ratcatchers; otherwise, use an amulet of glory to travel to Draynor and walk to Port Sarim (or use the fairy ring (code: AIQ), which places you right on Mudskipper Point. Start in reverse order if you do). You will find seagulls on the docks. From there, travel south and look for the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon, where you will find ice giants. Then, travel south to reach Mudskipper Point, home to the mogres. Use fishing explosive on "Ominous Fishing Spot" (requires full completion of Skippy and the Mogres) to agitate them out of the water.
Karamja[edit | edit source]
- Items Required: None.
- Recommended: Teleportation method to Karamja.
- Travel method: Travel to Karamja. Use the gnome glider, or the fairy ring code DKP. If nothing better is available, use the ship at Port Sarim or south east Ardougne. Snakes can be found throughout the island, but, more specifically, can be found west of the functioning gnome glider (far south east of the island), the mine north of Shilo Village (fairy ring code: CKR), and by the calquat patch (snakes within the Hardwood Grove do not drop the spine). Jogres can be found surrounding the crashed gnome glider located east of Tai Bwo Wannai, and are also found inside the Pothole Dungeon located on the north side of mainland Karamja (by the harpie bug swarms).
Taverley Dungeon[edit | edit source]
- Items required: Dusty key (if less than level 70 Agility).
- Recommended: Anti-dragon shield, antifire potions, teleportation method to a nearby location to Taverley Dungeon.
- Travel method: Teleport to Falador and walk north-west, use a games necklace to teleport to the Burthorpe Games Room and walk south, or use the gnome glider to travel to White Wolf Mountain and walk south-east (remember to bring the dusty key if below 70 Agility, as it will be required to unlock the gate leading to the blue dragon area). Baby blue dragons are found in the Taverley Dungeon, past the scorpions, chaos dwarves and lesser demons, through the gate that requires the dusty key to open. You could also, with level 70 Agility, use the pipe near the entrance to the dungeon. Bringing an anti-dragon shield or antifire potions is advisable, as the mothers are in proximity and may attack the player.
Trollheim[edit | edit source]
- Items required: None.
- Recommended: Teleportation method to Trollheim.
- Travel method:
- With Trollheim Teleport
Use the Trollheim Teleport to get to Trollheim. From there, climb down to the western side. The trolls are a bit to the west.
- Without Trollheim Teleport
- Use a games necklace to teleport to Burthorpe and walk north to Trollheim (specifically through Tenzing's house to northern Trollheim (requires completion of Death Plateau), as Death Plateau is a very dangerous place).
- The easiest other area to find trolls is by the entrance to Keldagrim. It is located close to a fairy ring (code: DKS), or by walking east from Rellekka.
Fremennik Province[edit | edit source]
- Items required: A mirror shield or V's shield is highly recommended, as basilisks will will reduce your stats to a critical and irritatingly low point (possible work arounds- see below).
- Recommended: Teleportation method to Rellekka.
- Travel method: Teleport to Rellekka (enchanted lyre, fairy ring code AJR), or to Camelot and walk north. Walk to the rare tree icon and kill some of the bunnies hopping about in the forest by the swaying tree. Then, head into the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon (AJR or Slayer ring) south-east of the rabbits to find basilisks (killing them requires level 40 Slayer).
- Mirror shield/V's shield workaround: It is possible to kill basilisks without a mirror or V's shield by using poison and multiple rings of recoil for melee, or by using a safespot across some rocks for Ranged or Magic.
Kandarin[edit | edit source]
- Items required: Rope, Glarial's amulet (if Waterfall Quest is only partially completed).
- Recommended: Teleportation method to a nearby location to the Lighthouse and Baxtorian Falls.
- Travel method: Accessing both locations in Kandarin can easily be done by using a games necklace and teleporting to Barbarian Outpost. Pay a visit to the Lighthouse (fairy ring code ALP), north of the Barbarian Outpost. Dagannoths are found within the basement (requires completion of Horror from the Deep to access). Good food and armour is suggested, as these dagannoths are aggressive, and the area is a multi-combat zone.
- Next, grab a rope (and Glarial's amulet if Waterfall Quest is only partially completed), and then use your games necklace to teleport back to the Barbarian Outpost. Travel south towards Baxtorian Falls, board the log raft to the west of the house north of the falls, use your rope on the rock after the raft crashes, then use it on the dead tree and enter the Waterfall Dungeon. Fire giants can be found in the north and north-west passages.
Tree Gnome Stronghold[edit | edit source]
- Items required: None.
- Recommended: Teleportation method to Tree Gnome Stronghold.
- Travel method: Travel to the Tree Gnome Stronghold, either via Spirit Tree, gnome glider, slayer ring or a royal seed pod. Terrorbirds can be found scattered across the stronghold in large numbers, but are found in a large group in the terrorbird pen to the south-west (across the bridge, near a tree icon) (killing a terrorbird in the pen (and only in the pen) is an easy task in the Western Provinces Achievement Diary). The mounted terrorbird gnomes sauntering throughout the area will not drop the bone.
Feldip Hills[edit | edit source]
- Items required: An ogre bow and ogre arrows, comp ogre bow and brutal arrows or Crumble Undead casts (1 chaos, 2 earth, 2 air runes) are highly recommended, as the zogres have an 80% immunity to most weaponry.
- Recommended: Inoculation bracelet (to prevent disease), Relicym's balm or Sanfew serum (to cure disease), teleportation methods to Jiggig and Feldip Hills.
- Travel method: Travel to Feldip Hills using fairy ring (code: AKS), a ring of dueling (Castle Wars minigame teleport) and walking south-east, or gnome glider. There, you will find a plethora of ogres and wolves. If walking from Castle Wars, killing a zogre at Jiggig first may be preferable (continue reading to see how). From Feldip Hills, travel north-west (east if using fairy ring (code: BKP)) to Jiggig (south of Castle Wars) to find zogres.
- Zogres are located within the Jiggig tomb, and may inflict disease upon the player. The inoculation bracelet will counter this effect; just be sure to keep it equipped all the time. Or, if you have completed Zogre Flesh Eaters, you may buy Relicym's balm (requires all 3 dosages to fully cure disease; taking one or two doses will lessen the effects) from Uglug Nar (if you opened his shop after completing the quest). Alternatively, you can bring Sanfew serum for a heightened effect. Another option to counter the disease is to go to Clan Wars and use the pool of refreshment, which will reset your stats to full. The zogres also have an incredible 80% immunity to most weaponry; therefore, it is advisable to bring along an ogre bow and ogre arrows, an ogre composite bow and brutal arrows, or enough necessary runes to cast several Crumble Undead spells.
Polishing the bones[edit | edit source]
- Items required: 27 pots, 27 jugs of vinegar (and 27 coins to buy them), 27 logs (of any type; alternatively, an axe to chop them down by the Odd Old Man), a tinderbox, all 27 bones (as few as one at a time can be polished and brought to the Odd Old Man).
- Recommended: Teleportation methods to Draynor Village and to the Odd Old Man.
- Once you have collected the bones, go to Draynor Village and talk to (or simply trade with) Fortunato (found in the market square) there. He will be able to sell you some jugs of vinegar for 1 coin each. Buy 27 of them. Do not steal from the market stall or he will not talk to you for a while. In addition to the vinegar, collect 27 pots, 27 logs (of any type - not necessary, though. You can, alternatively, bring an axe with you when you visit the Odd Old Man and cut down trees in the area instead) and a tinderbox and talk to the Odd Old Man for further instructions.
- Use a jug of vinegar with a pot to get a pot of vinegar.
- Use the bone with the pot of vinegar to get a bone in vinegar.
- Note: Be careful that you do not accidentally "empty" a bone in vinegar, because if you do, you will lose the bone and have to collect that bone again.
- Polish the bone. Use a log on the pot-boiler next to the Odd Old Man, and then use a bone in vinegar on it. Finally, use your tinderbox to light it (you will not receive XP for lighting it).
- Note: Hop worlds after lighting the logs for them to be finished when you log back in, or wait 12 seconds for each pot to boil.
- Take the pot from the pot-boiler to receive the polished bone.
- Repeat this for all remaining bones.
Finishing up[edit | edit source]
- Talk to the Odd Old Man to give him the bones. Once all 27 have been given, the quest is complete.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Rag-and-bone man is a British phrase for a junk dealer. Historically, the phrase referred to an individual who would travel the streets of a city with a horsedrawn cart, and would collect old rags (for converting into fabric and paper), bones for making glue, scrap iron and other items, often trading them for other items of limited value.
- The bones scattered in and around the Odd Old Man's house have many interesting "examine" texts (a good activity to partake in while waiting for the bones to be polished). One such skeleton states "What a waste of prayer xp!" Examining the pot-boiler at the various stages of boiling the bones will also give interesting texts, the one while the bone is boiling being "This smells so very, very bad..."
- After completing the quest, the Wish-List on his house will have "Non-chafing Manacles" written on it.
- Rag and Bone Man II was formerly the miniquest named "Rag & Bone Wish List"; it is not the same as RS3's sequel quest Fur and Seek. As, unlike all other miniquests, the wish list awarded one quest point, it was renamed Rag and Bone Man II and reclassified as a quest in an update on 17 August 2017.
- Previously in the game, a player needed to choose between the bonesack and ram skull helm as a reward for having completed the quest, but could swap one for the other at any time by talking to the Odd Old Man again. This was later changed, allowing players to possess both at the same time.
