My Dying Bride ma to do siebie, że każdy ich album jest wielce wyczekiwany, teoretycznie przewidywalny, ale za każdym razem niesie za sobą jakąś niespodziankę. Zanim ukazał się 10 krążek Anglików "For Lies I Sire", Steinhorpe zdążył wymienić sekcję rytmiczną i zwerbował do szeregu skrzypaczkę. Po dosć eksperymentalnym, ale intrygujacym "A Line Of Deathless Kings" byłem bardzo ciekaw w którą stronę podąży brytyjski sekstet.
Po przesłuchaniu "For Lies I Sire" czułem się bardzo zaskoczony. Niby typowe My Dying Bride, ale już pierwszy odsłuch zapewnił mi tyleż samo pozytywnych co i negatywnych wrażeń, stawiając to wydawnictwo w gronie najbardziej kontrowersyjnych w dorobku zespołu.

Album przeciekł do sieci już jakiś czas temu. Fani zespołu bardzo szybko okrzyknęli go powrotem do korzeni, inni się radowali, że wróciło stare dobre My Dying Bride, które przestało eksperymentować, a inni narzekali, że grają to co zawsze. I każda z tych grup ma po części rację.

"For Lies I Sire" nie ma w sobie krzty eksperymentalności. Po wielu wielu latach w utworach usłyszymy skrzypce, zupełnie jak na pierwszych płytach grupy. Zdecydowanie jest to zwrot w stronę wczesnych dokonań - typowy doom, ze spora ilością growlingów i czystych wokali. Tutaj należy podkreślić, że wokalnie jest to jeden z najlepszych, jeśli nie najlepszych album zespołu. Anglikom udało się także coś innego - o wiele bardziej cennego. Utwory brzmią świeżo, są zadziwiająco chwytliwie jak na tę grupę i zwyczajnie dobrze się tego słucha.

Jest też jednak druga strona medalu. To co jest z jednej strony atutem jest też poniekąd wadą. "For Lies I Sire" jest płytą bardzo zachowawczą i minimalistyczną. Nigdy przedtem zespół nie nagrał tak prostych i przejrzystych utworów. W porównaniu do "A Line..." ten album można określić nawet jako banalny, gdyż dzieje się tu o wiele mniej, a pomysły też do najbardziej wyszukanych nie należą. No właśnie - wszystko co tutaj słyszymy było grane przez Anglików już wcześniej. Ten album wydaje się być zgrabnym skompilowaniem wszystkiego co najlepsze w dotychczasowej twórczości grupy. Dodać też trzeba fakt, że płyta posiada zdecydowanie zbyt sterylne brzmienie, nie pasujące do doom metalu.

Fanom grupy ten album na pewno przypadnie do gustu, bo ciężko jest mówić o zawodzie. Z drugiej strony My Dying Bride po raz kolejny wydało album dobry, ale któremu brakuje tego "czegoś" co uczyniło by go wyjątkowym. Dopiero teraz przekonuje się do tego, że poprzedni album formacji był tworem nadzwyczaj kreatywnym. Niestety w moim odczuciu "For Lies I Sire" wypada bardzo przeciętnie na tle innych płyt tej zasłużone kapeli. Na pewno ustępuje "The Light At the End Of The Wold" czy wspomnianej "A Line Of Deathless Kings", ale przebija "Like Gods Of The Sun" czy "Songs Of Darkness Words Of Light. Jednak odbiór tego albumu będzie w dużej mierze zależał od tego, czego się dany słuchacz spodziewał po MDB.

It took me hours, literally, in order to find a way to start this review. Not only because MY DYING BRIDE is one of the bands that I have in my top ten list, or because they are one of the leaders in the Doom Metal scene, but because these kind of albums cant be described in words easily.

What should I write for this band from Halifax, England, which along PARADISE LOST and ANATHEMA are the Holy triad of Death/Doom Metal in the U.K.? We are talking about a band that most of their albums, even the controversial "34.788%...Complete" one, are better than many other bands albums and some of the older stuff of MY DYING BRIDE is classic in the Metal community. With "For Lies I Sire" they are going a step backwards in a good way, since, along with the new lineup, the violin comes back (something the old fans of the band will appreciate). So, since the history lessons have been postponed (and if you dont know anything about this band even if you dont like this genre, you have two choices: go now and buy every album right now or stop telling you are listening to Metal music), Ill try to describe this album in words.

There are many reasons to love this CD. Most of them are going to haunt your mind in a beautiful way that cannot be described. Those who followed the band during those eighteen years can understand me. The album is probably the most depressing and darkest stuff they have released in the past ten years. And, believe me, I love albums like "Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light" and "A Line Of Deathless Kings". While listening to "For Lies I Sire" a smell of pain, agony and death will surround you, and the Death Metal parts will bring you back from this dark land, but just for a while. The band seems to be in great shape and its obvious that they worked hard for this release. Probably the new blood in the band gave them the boost... or just what is going on in the world made Aaron Stainthorpe and his fellows write such a songlist.

And dont forget the comeback of the violin, which makes the compositions deeper and more melancholic. The good thing is that the band found the balance between the violin and the guitars and the album is not overloaded with instruments. Sometimes the violin is on the background and some others the guitars step back. Is not that the albums that had only keyboards are bad, but the sound of the violin is something else. As for the rest of the band, well, the guitars have kept the characteristic riffing but its been improved over the years and the new rhythm section is doing a great work. As for Aarons performance? I think that he always has high standards and I cant remember him lowering his level.

"For Lies I Sire" has haunted me and my computer. Surely one of the albums that will be in my top list for 2009 and I believe that it will be a classic one in the years that will come. Im looking forward for its release date to finally get the CD in my hands, in order to see even deeper in this effort. And even though I have my own scale to rate an album, since 10/10 goes only in all time classic stuff, this CD is quite near, so...
