Keane to zespół popowy. Jeśli ktoś miał dotąd jakiekolwiek wątpliwości najnowsze dzieło je rozwieje.

Grupa od zawsze miała dryg do pisania szalenie chwytliwych, zgrabnych niczym tyłeczek Marisy Tomei piosenek. I w tej materii nic się nie zmieniło. Nadal mamy śpiewne refreny i nieinwazyjne zwrotki.

Zupełnie inne jest brzmienie. Jakakolwiek indie-rockowa zadziorność przepadła. W miejsce klasycznych fortepianowych aranżacji często pojawia się za to płaskie morze syntezatorów. Winą za takie a nie inne brzmienie "Perfect Symmetry" należy obwinić producentów, w szczególności miłującego elektroniczne podkłady Stuarta Price'a. Po zabiegach dokonanych na muzyce Anglików powstały piosenki przywodzące skojarzenia z Tears For Fears, Simple Minds czy słabszym okresem twórczości Duran Duran. Nawet niemodny saksofon się pojawia i melorecytacja po francusku.

Chociaż popowo-syntezatorowe podejście do przebojowych kompozycji Keane nie powinno im zaszkodzić, niestety trochę zaszkodziło. Wypolerowana, wygładzona produkcja stłamsiła niemały potencjał formacji. Czysty, wysoki głos Toma Chaplina genialnie sprawdzał się z odrobiną brudu, jaką przyprószono poprzedni album. Pięknie było ze skromnym fortepianem i ckliwymi smykami. Tutaj całość staje się zbyt nijaka, jakby mdła. Niemniej nadal mamy w zestawie kilka perełek.
Kawałków, które z miejsca wpadają w ucho i serce, by wspomnieć chociażby wyjątkowej urody "The Lovers Are Losing" czy utrzymane w dawnym stylu "Again & Again".

Jedno jest pewne. Porównania z Coldplay, z którymi muzycy musieli zmagać się przy okazji debiutu, teraz im nie grożą. A że drygu do pisania świetnych melodii nie stracili, należy dać im jeszcze jedną szansę.

Perfect Symmetry is the third studio album by English piano rock band Keane, released on 13 October 2008 in the United Kingdom. The album's title was released on 31 July 2008. The band had completely transformed their look and their new album was said to be also very unexpected. According to international Island Records manager, Jon Turner, the general international feel is of excitement and "Spiralling" is a favourite track of the US company.

Musically, Perfect Symmetry is a departure from Keane's established piano-pop sound, with the band employing guitars for the first time since their early musical beginnings and a larger reliance on synthesizers than their previous effort Under the Iron Sea, as well as experimenting with other instruments such as the musical saw, saxophone and string arrangements. Also most notable is the emergence of a 1980s' synth pop-influenced style on most songs such as "Spiralling" and "Again and Again". The album is the result of a more relaxed and creative recording process in comparison to the tense sessions for Under the Iron Sea.

The cover for the album was revealed on 5 September. Tim Rice-Oxley explained that the imagery of the band are photographs of bigger than life-size sculptures of the band members, made by Korean artist Osang Gwon. It was implied that these sculptures will form the basis of the album's image and promotion up to the date of release. It was also revealed that the first full single release from the album was "The Lovers Are Losing", which was released on 20 October 2008. The next single will be "Perfect Symmetry", which will be released on 29 December 2008. On 6 October the entire album was made available to stream, along with commentary from the band, on Last.fm.
