Trójka studentów szkoły filmowej wyposażonych w kamery wideo wyrusza na wyprawę w okolice Burkittysville. Chcą nakręcić dokumentalny film inspirowany lokalną legenda o wiedźmach z Blair. Legenda głosi, że od dwóch wieków w okolicznych lasach wiedźmy torturowały i zabijały dzieci. To, co wydawało się być prostym zadaniem, zamieniło się w koszmar. Rok później znaleziono tylko nagrane taśmy... "The Blair Witch Project" jest jedną z nich. Studentów już nigdy nie odnaleziono, a policja nie jest w stanie racjonalnie wyjaśnić okoliczności popełnionych tam morderstw.

Montgomery Collede students (Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael Williams) decide to make a class project about the legend of the Blair Witch. Equipped with video cameras, they interview local people and try to find the evidence of the Blair Witch existence. The legend says that in the Burkittsville woods the witches tortured and killed many village children. The project seemed to be easy to complete, yet it turned out to be a nightmare. A year later only video tapes were found..."The Blair Witch Project" is one of them. The students have never been seen again...
