Hip Hop Is Dead is a 2006 album by American hip-hop artist Nas released December 19. The LP will is Nas' eighth album of all-original material, and his first album for Def Jam Recordings. Nas' previous label, Columbia Records, co-financed the album with Def Jam. Nas announced the album's title after a performance on May 18, 2006. A listening session was conducted on November 9, 2006 at Sony Studios and early reports for the album are very positive. According to sources, Sony Records allowed those invited to listen to the first few seconds of the song "Black Republican" featuring Jay-Z before cutting it off. The song in its entirety was leaked on the Internet a few days later.
