Opis:
Multi-instrumentalista i kompozytor – Prem Joshua – jest pionierem na polu Muzyki Świata, odkrywa i tworzy on nowe połączenia dźwięków, które zabierają nas poza granicę zarówno Wschodu, jak i Zachodu. Niedające spokoju melodie sitar, bambusowych fletów i sopranowego saksofonu pobrzmiewają ponad porywającym rytmem wybijanym na tabli – antyczne poematy Sanskrytu i Sufi odradzają się poprzez czarujące pieśni i tradycyjne chanty. Czerpiąc inspirację z tych głębokich studni tradycji muzycznych Wschodu, Joshua nigdy nie stracił kontaktu z tętniącą muzyką współczesnego Zachodu. Poprzez lata nie ustawał on w ulepszaniu swojego niesamowitego talentu do łączenia i mieszania klasycznej medytacyjnej muzyki indyjskiej (Raga) z energicznymi kompozycjami oraz nowoczesnymi dźwiękami i rytmami, by ostatecznie stworzyć muzykę, która jest tak charakterystyczna i unikatowa.

Description:
"Mudra" is a Sanskrit word that means "hand gesture." In Buddhism, mudras represent particular practices or beliefs; in the Vedic rituals of ancient India, they are integrated into traditional dance forms. For the album Mudra, multi-instrumentalist and composer Prem Joshua collaborated with keyboardist Maneesh de Moor to create a series of ten pieces inspired by different mudras; as usual, the music is a rich mixture of Western and Eastern elements, combining bamboo flute and sitar with synthesizer and breakbeats of various kinds. The most successful tracks on Mudra are those that lean more toward the Eastern than the Western stylistic pole -- on tracks like the smooth-funk "Wild Gunghu 1" and the jazzy "Darbari N.Y.C.," there's a rather saccharine sweetness to the music that undermines its effectiveness. "Saffron Dreams" is more ethereal and ambient, and "Banyan Tales," which features the tabla playing of Prem Joshua's frequent collaborator Manish Vyas and is perhaps the most explicitly Indian piece on the program, ends the album strongly.

-------------------

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Prem Joshua is a pioneer in the field of World Music, exploring and creating a new synthesis in sound which takes us beyond the borders of both East and West. Haunting melodies on the sitar, bamboo flute and soprano sax soar over driving tabla rhythms - ancient Sanskrit and Sufi poems are re-awakened by captivating songs and chants. And while drawing inspiration from these deep wells of the musical traditions of the East, Joshua has never lost touch with the pulse of contemporary Western music. Over the years he has continued to refine his awesome talent for fusion, mixing meditative classical Indian ragas with highly energetic compositions, modern cutting-edge sounds and grooves, to create a music both distinctive and unique.

He is now the number 1 bestselling World Music artist in India and the daily newspaper "The Times of India" has lauded him as the new "Guru of Fusion". In 2003, the BBC nominated him for its prestigious “World Music Listeners Award”. In early 2005 the music channel "MTV" invited Joshua and his band to give a half-hour live performance during one of their regular MTV live shows in Bombay. His performance was broadcast on TV several times - a rare opportunity for a musician of his genre to be featured on a TV music channel that otherwise concentrates mainly on mainstream music. He has performed in front of prominent names such as Paul Getty III and Deepak Chopra to mention but a few. In addition, Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar has blessed his concert tours and his daughter, Anoushka Shankar, herself a world-famous and outstanding sitar player, has said she simply loves Joshua´s unique sound and compositions.

Besides being busy with composing and studio recordings, Prem Joshua has always been a passionate live performer - he is as much at home on stage in Bombay as in the clubs of New York, touring the globe for almost 7 months each year. For the last 15 years he has shared the stage with internationally acclaimed musicians from East and West, performing in the USA, Japan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Israel and Europe. Joshua´s concerts are enhanced by the mezmerising dance performances of Hina Sarojini (Singapore). She is quite simply his music in movement and combines Indian and Western dance traditions with an effortless, awe inspiring and spell binding grace.
