Historia Helloween rozpoczyna się w 1979 roku, kiedy to Kai Hansen i Piet Sielck grają w zespole "Gentry", w kolejnych latach do zespołu dołączają: Ingo Schwichtenberg ( perkusja) oraz Markus Grosskoph ( bass) po czym zmieniają oni nazwę zespołu na "IronFist" Kolejna personalna zmiana, było odejście po kilku latach wspólnego grania Pieta Sielcka. Zastąpił go Michael Weikath, który opuścił swój wcześniejszy zespól "Powerfool". I właśnie w tym momencie band zmienił nazwę na "HELLOWEEN". W 1984 roku Helloween nagrywa dwie piosenki na kompilacje: "Death Metal". Są to: "Oernst For Life" autorstwa Weikatha oraz "Metal Invadors"
Kolejnym krokiem do kariery jest rok 1985, kiedy to zespól nagrywa swój pierwszy album zatytułowany "Helloween" ( zwany również The Mini LP ze względu na to, że zawiera tylko 5 piosenek). Jeszcze w tym samym roku zespól wydaje swój długogrający album "Walls of Jericho" Po sukcesie, jaki odniósł pierwszy album w zespole zachodzą poważne zmiany. Kai Hansen, który udziela się wokalnie na pierwszej płycie stwierdza, ze ciężko mu pogodzić granie na gitarze oraz śpiewanie. W wyniku poszukiwań wokalisty do zespołu dołącza Michael Kikse (były wokalista "ILL Prophecy"). (Źródło)

Description:
The original line-up featured Kai Hansen (Vocals/Guitars), Michael Weikath (Guitars), Markus Grosskopf (Bass) and Ingo Schwichtenberg (Drums). In 1984 the band had signed a deal with Noise Records (see 1984 in music) and recorded two songs for a Noise compilation record called Death Metal. The two tracks were "Oernst Of Life" by Weikath, and Hansen's "Metal Invaders" which later on ended up in a faster version on the bands first full-length album.1985 came around and Helloween then recorded their first record Helloween, a self-titled EP containing 5 tracks. The EP was successful, and during that same year they recorded and released their first full-length album titled Walls of Jericho which became a critical smash, with its innovative mixture of speed and melodies redefining heavy metal. (In Fact, WWE Wrestler Chris Jericho took his stage name from the album, as well as the name of his signature submission move Walls Of Jericho). However, during the following tour, it became obvious that Kai had difficulties singing and playing the guitar at the same time. Kai's last performance as the band's lead-singer came in 1986 in form of a single EP titled Judas, which contained the song "Judas" along with some live tracks.
