Fabuła Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children toczy się dwa lata po wydarzeniach ukazanych w grze. Midgar zostało zniszczone, a jego mieszkańcy powoli, lecz miarowo kroczą ścieżką odbudowy. Cierpią jednak z powodu tajemniczej choroby zwanej Geostigmą (jap. Seikon-Shoukougun). Nieuleczalna, pozbawia chorych sił i wszelkiej nadziei na dalsze życie.
Cloud, który zrezygnował z życia bohatera, by dalej żyć w samotności, musi znowu wyjść z cienia... Jednak zmierzenie się z tajemniczymi, srebrnowłosymi braćmi - Kadaj'em, Yazoo i Lozem - to nie wszystko, czemu stawić czoła będzie musiał Cloud. Wszystko wskazuje na to, że ktoś może przyczynić się do powrotu Sephirotha do żywych...

Many of the series' most beloved characters will be making a return for FFVII: Advent Children, and they've all been given stunning character redesigns by famed Final Fantasy character designer Nomura Tetsuya.
The setting is two years after the events of Final Fantasy VII. The once-prosperous city of Midgar has been reduced to ruins by the conflict between rebel group Avalanche and corporate power Shinra, who once sought to monopolize the world's power supply at the cost of the planet's very future. The people of Midgar are still recovering, but a mysterious disease called Geostigma is removing hope as it quietly takes their lives. In the midst of this, former Avalanche member Cloud Strife returns from self-imposed solitude to once again take up the mantle of hero...
