Kei Kurono jest typowym uczniem szkoły średniej który myśli tylko o sobie. Jednak pewnego dnia pomaga swojemu przyjacielowi z dzieciństwa Katou Masaru uratować pijanego pasażera który upadł na tory metra. Sami jednak nie zdarzyli uciec przed pociągiem i giną... lub nie giną. Obaj pojawiają się w mieszkaniu gdzie jest jeszcze paru ludzi którzy "zgineli" i tajemnicza czarna kula GANTZ. Zaczyna się "gra" i nie wszyscy przeżyją. Anime powstała na bazie mangi Hiroya Oku. Kreska nie odbiega od produkcji roku 2004, wymieszano grafikę komputerowa z klasyczna, na muzykę też nie można narzekać, jest po prostu dobra.
Serial jest pełen scen drastycznych pełnych krwi i przemocy a także nagości.
