Aaliyah Dana Haughton (16 stycznia 1979 - 25 sierpnia 2001), była amerykańską piosenkarką rhythm and bluesową i aktorką.
Urodziła się w Nowym Jorku na Brooklynie, dorastała w Detroit. W wieku 9 lat zaśpiewała piosenkę w jednym z odcinków serialu telewizyjnego Star Search, dwa lata później śpiewała na kilku koncertach w Los Angeles razem z Gladys Knight. W 1992 roku zaczęła pracę nad swym debiutanckim albumem, z pomocą starszego od niej o ponad 10 lat piosenkarza i kompozytora R. Kelly, którego rzekomo(?) poślubiła w 1994 r., mając 15 lat (ślub został unieważniony ze względu na jej młody wiek).
Pierwszy album Aaliyah Age Ain't Nothing but a Number wydany w 1994 roku, uzyskał bardzo pochlebne opinie i zdobył w USA status platynowej płyty. Następna płyta, wydana 27 sierpnia 1996 roku One In A Million zyskała status podwójnie platynowej. W 1997 r. Aaliyah zaśpiewała w filmie animowanym Anastasia piosenkę Journey to the Past, która została nominowana do Oscara, a rok później przebojową piosenkę Are You That Somebody w filmie Dr Dolittle.
W 2000 roku zagrała jedną z głównych ról w filmie Romeo Must Die ("Romeo musi umrzeć"), w którym zaśpiewała także kilka piosenek.
Latem 2001 roku ukazała się jej trzecia płyta Aaliyah. Teledysk do piosenki Rock the Boat z tego albumu był kręcony na Wyspach Bahama w sierpniu 2001 r. Samolot, którym wracała z planu teledysku rozbił się kilka minut po starcie. Zginęła mając 22 lata.

Seven years after her debut at just 15 years old, Aaliyah assembled a third studio album that was astonishingly mature. Sadly, her death just a little over a month after its release stilled a promising voice in R&B. At 22, when most artists would just be getting started, Aaliyah had already progressed from pop to street to an unconventional retro-modern, risk-taking version of R&B. While lead track "We Need a Resolution" is as mainstream as it gets, there are fewer hits on this album than on previous efforts. Instead, this collection is an extraordinary romantic exposition of passion and pain. While Missy Elliott is cranking out jams for all her "club freaks," Aaliyah is like a modern-day (if less vocally gifted) Minnie Riperton, exploring the pains of moving from child star to adult sex symbol. Tracks such as "Never No More" and "I Care 4 U" (featuring Missy) are slinky, twisted ballads imbued with film-noir sultriness, as diva Aaliyah steps catlike away from the bubblegum R&B of her contemporaries. There's also the obligatory rock track tacked on near the end ("I Can Be"), but even this excels above the standard hip-hop/rock/R&B crossover fare with its Prince-like influences coupled with Aaliyah's own instinct for seduction. Aaliyah also signaled a move away from her long-standing musical relationship with producer Timbaland, who contributes just three cuts. Having started out heavily supported by R. Kelly, it appeared that Aaliyah was more than able to go it alone.
