Jego twórcą jest najbardziej obecnie zapracowany didżej z Berlina - Shir Khan. Jego sety można usłyszeć przede wszystkim w londyńskich klubach - Fabric i Ministry Of Sound. Nie brak ich również w eterze. Do tej pory emitowało je Radio One oraz XFM. Obecnie Sir Khan uruchomił własną tłocznię - Exploited. Jej nakładem ujrzał światło dzienne jego pierwszy miks na płycie. To właśnie "Maximize!"

Shir Khan objawia się na nim jako mistrz mush-upu, czyli łączenia dwóch lub trzech nagrań w jedną całość. Świetnym przykładem może być tu karkołomne zmiksowanie "Yehaw! Human Is Target" Sergeja Auto, "Frau" I-Robots i "Sex-O-Matic" Edu K. Z pierwszego numeru Shri Khan wziął podkład, z drugiego wokal, a z trzeciego - chórki. W efekcie wyszła klubowa petarda o mocnym bicie, warczącym basie i popowych wokalach. Takich przykładów jest tu więcej - choćby zestawienie "Steamulation" Justice Vs. Gambit z "Day May" Spektrum czy "Mein Schatzi" Munka z "Clapz" Studio R feat. Mocky. Shir Khan stawia oczywiście na mało znane nagrania, przede wszystkim z kręgu nowego disco, electro, house`u i techno. Mieszając je ze sobą, uzupełnia popowymi wokalami i rockowymi gitarami, tworząc niezwykle energetyczną całość, dla której jak ulał pasuje etykietka wymyślona przez brytyjskich dziennikarzy z "New Musical Express" - new rave.

Drugi dysk z zestawu zawiera również miks, ale już ze znacznie mniejszą ilością mash-upowych atrakcji. Tutaj dominują bardziej oldskulowe brzmienia - breakbeat (choćby Gameboy/Gamegirl w utworze "Sweaty Wet/Dirty Dump"), rave (Sinden & Mount Of Monte Cristal "Tamborzuda"), no i oczywiście house (DJ Sandrinho "Italiano Lento") i disco (Audioporno feat. Roxy Cottontail "Blonde Bunny Bounce"). Z modnych nowości trafiamy na erotyczny baile funk w wykonaniu Tetine ("L.I.C.K. My Favela" z genialnie wplecionym motywem z "Funky Called Medina" Tone Loca), rozszalały crunk w wersji Niyi ("808 Klap") oraz surowy dance-punk autorstwa Free Blood ("Quick And Painful").
Co ciekawe, dwa razy pojawia się w tym miksie mistrz schizofrenicznego punk-funka - Mark Stewart. Najpierw w utworze Adama Sky`a "We Are All Prostitutes" będącym taneczną wersją słynnego kawałka The Pop Group sprzed prawie 30 lat, a potem udzielając się wokalnie w premierowej kompozycji "Psychoville" Martina Petera.
"Maximize!" - to ponad dwie godziny świetnej zabawy. I jakże trendy!

Shir Khan is a German DJ that has remixed, amongst others, Bonde Do Role & Princess Superstar and regularly plays around Europe alongside various members of the Ed-Banger crew. A visit to his website rewards you within seconds with an electro mash-up track that chews up and spits out samples from Get It Girl by 2 Live Crew, the Dizzee endorsed ,strong>It Takes Two break and a cameo verse from everyone’s favourite piece of sweary rich-kid jailbait, Uffie. Suffice to say Shir Khan knows what is hot in a way that Paris Hilton can only dream of and this is perhaps one of the reasons that new label Exploited has called upon him to compile and mix this double CD set of what they like to term ‘Neu-Rave’.

Shir Khan impresses with a selection of modern electro and house that touches on a variety of established dancefloor hurters from the likes of Justice, Switch, Go-Team, Busy-P, Crookers alongside 44 more tracks of filth for your ears delectation. Kicking off with Simian Mobile Disco’s totally kicking Miami Bass update It’s The Beat, along the way it takes in the the ferocious bassbin smut of Brazil’s Baile Funk scene alongside reams of distorted, minimal disco noise of the kind that you wish Daft Punk had just stuck to making after the successes of Homework. Mr Khan even finds room for Sinden & Count of Monte Cristal’s schizophrenic Niche workout Tamborzuda and the moronic Billie Piperisms of Niyi’s 808 Klap, two selections that I am unquestionably in favour of.

During Shir Khan’s intro the DJ gives props to the likes of Osymyso, Negativland and Cassetteboy and whilst these artists aren’t all DJ’s exactly, those familiar with their work may note a shared approach to sound that is totally in line with the aesthetic that Khan’s mixing employs. Not for him the twenty-minute build-ups of his Berlin neighbour Ricardo Villalobos, this is instead the sound of electro music staying true to its Hip-Hop roots with the cross fader switching quickly and tunes introduced into the mix in the time-honoured dancefloor model of instant gratification.

The gripes I have are that I would say it’s a mix for your speakers rather than headphones – there is not enough sonic variety for me to enjoy listening to the mix close up, especially over the two CD’s. It’s cool to bounce around your house to but the similar tempo of the beats and deja-vu inducing timbre of all those glitchy analogue synths start to invoke a bit of claustrophobia after a while. Also, the employment of the Baile Funk tracks smacks a little of tokenism, stealing a bit of favela chic from Brazil without really respecting the innovations of the genre on its own terms. Kinda like when Metal bands hire scratch DJs but admittedly not quite that bad.

Overall this has loads to recommend it though, not least the fact that the updated Acid-House on offer here is a more viable New Rave than the Indie music that just stole the clothes.
