Cannibal Corpse - amerykański zespół grający ekstremalną odmianę death metalu-brutal death metal. Powstał w 1989 roku w Buffalo w stanie New York. Pierwszy skład tworzyli: wokalista Chris Barnes(obecnie George"Corpsegrinder" Fisher), gitarzyści Rob Barrett (zastąpiony później przez Pata O'Briena) i Jack Owen (zastąpiony całkiem niedawno przez Jeremy Turnera, za którego w 2005 roku do grupy powrócił Rob Barrett), basista Alex Webster oraz Paul Mazurkiewicz na perkusji.

Zespół od początku swojego istnienia prezentował bezprecedensowy, brutalny death metal, co słychać głównie na pierwszych czterech albumach. Wielki wpływ na taką muzykę miał wcześniej wspomniany Chris Barnes (odszedł od zespołu w 1994 roku do Six Feet Under).

Muzyka od albumu "Vile" jest szybsza, jednak już mniej miażdżąca i brutalna. Na szczególną uwagę zasługują tu instrumentalisci, gdyż Cannibal Corpse to pod wzgledem techniki jest jedną z sprawniejszych death metalowych grup.

W 1992 Cannibal Corpse nagrali album "Tomb Of The Mutilated", który okazał się ich najlepiej sprzedawanym wydawnictwem (ponad 100 tys. sprzedanych płyt).

Zespół wystąpił w Polsce kilkakrotnie: w 1992, 1993 i 2002 na Metalmanii oraz w 2003 i 2004 w klubie Proxima w Warszawie.

Jednym z najsłynniejszym fanów zespołu jest Jim Carrey, dzieki któremu Cannibal Corpse wystąpili w filmie "Ace Ventura. Psi detektyw" grając tam chyba najbardziej znany kawałek "Hammer smashed face" (pl.wikipedia.org)

“Tomb of the Mutilated” is one of those albums in the Death Metal genre that set a new standard in terms of musicianship, technicality and lyrical content. In interviews prior to TOTM’s release, master lyricist Chris Barnes explained that he will write about serial killers including the quintessentials of brutality, zombies and necrophilia. That album, in my opinion turned out to be the most vile, gory and overall sick album that I have heard. Chris Barnes’ voice in Tomb of the Mutilated set the benchmark for all other bands to emulate. Though almost impossible to decipher, the lyrics of TOTM are the most graphic, perverted and violent of the time. Musically, it also established new standards of technicality and musicianship for the Death Metal genre. Although production is much improved from the last Death Metal masterpiece, “Butchered at Birth”, it is still average for the time. From a mother killing her offspring to fucking the corpses of children, “Tomb of the Mutilated” covered and explored the depths of humanity and how much lower they can go. ([email protected])
