Opis:
Druga Wojna Światowa, miasto w strefie okupowanej. Weterynarz Théodore wraz z burmistrzem opiekują się dziewięcioletnim Claudem, którego rodzice zaginęli w trakcie wojny. Nauczycielka, panna Lundi, nawiązuje kontakt ze społecznością Cyganów, która przybyła w te okolice, by pracować przy winobraniu. Razem z Théodorem postanawiają zorganizować zajęcia szkolne dla cygańskich dzieci. Obowiązek meldunku, ceniącym wolność Cyganom, nie pozwala jednak na spokojne osiedlenie się. Théodore postanawia więc odstąpić im swoją ziemię na czas pobytu. W międzyczasie mały Claude zaprzyjaźnia się z Talochem, spacerującym wszędzie z małpką na ramieniu. Chłopiec jest coraz bardziej zafascynowany kulturą bohemy - światem wolności, gdzie dzieci traktowane są po królewsku. Jednak radosna beztroska nie trwa długo: naciski ze strony policji i Gestapo zagrażają każdemu z mieszkańców miasta. Cyganie decydują się udać w dalszą drogę...

Plot Summary:
A Gypsy family and a young orphan drift through the French countryside during World War II, and seek work in the vineyards of a small town with laws strictly forbidding their nomadic lifestyle. Subsequently placed in an internment camp, the wayward travelers are quickly rescued by the town's sympathetic mayor, who bestows them a plot of land where they can live without fear of harassment. Later, as the Gypsies grow increasingly uncomfortable with the prospect of living in one place, the Gestapo arrests the mayor and a local teacher for resistance. Fearing that they, too, are about to lose their freedom should they decide to remain in town, the Gypsies quickly decide that their best option is to try their luck on the road, and quietly take flight.
