Opis:
Max leży umierający w paryskim szpitalu. Wokół jego łóżka zgromadziła się cała rodzina, łącznie z Victorem, jego synem, który od lat mieszka w Argentynie. Zjazd rodzinny - i to w obliczu bliskiej śmierci głowy rodu - nie jest jednak spotkaniem przyjemnym. Na nowo rozbudzone zostają stare animozje, dają znać o sobie skrywane tajemnice, a przede wszystkim każdy walczy o zapewnienie sobie jak największych korzyści spadkowych. Max jednak pozostaje na to wszystko ślepy. Jego nie interesuje przyszłość. Wie, że umrze. Nie interesuje go też teraźniejszość. Jego umysł zaprząta przeszłość, tajemnica tego, kim jest oraz zdrada, jaką popełnił. Na powiernika swojej tajemnicy wybiera Victora, rodzinnego outsidera. Victor początkowo uważa opowieści ojca za wymysł chorego umysłu. Wkrótce jednak okaże się, że nie wszystko jest takie proste, jak myślał. Droga ku prawdzie stanie się dla Victora drogą ku dojrzałości. Jak jednak zareaguje, kiedy dowie się prawdy o swoim ojcu i matce? Film otrzymał dwie statuetki Goya oraz trzy dalsze nominacje.

Plot Summary:
Max (Fernando Fernán Gómez), the wealthy family patriarch and head of a pharmaceuticals business, is dying of cancer and has relocated from Madrid to a Paris hospital for treatment. The members of his family, including his wife, Marie (Geraldine Chaplin), have gathered around him there. Victor (Leonardo Sbaraglia), the youngest son and last to arrive in Paris, lives in Argentina and has no ties to the family business. He sees Max, who is becoming incoherent and confused, secretly throwing away his medicine, pretending to sleep, and attempting to escape from the hospital. Victor notices that Max appears to be afraid of something, but he can't tell if his fear is well founded or if he is just delusional. In the midst of family conflict and questions about the inheritance, Victor helps Max search for answers about a mysterious figure from his past who may or may not exist, while encountering opposition from other family members.
