Opis:
Via Mistica zainteresowała "klimatyczną" publiczność wydanym kilka lat temu (a niedawno wznowionym) materiałem "Testamentum (In Hora Mortis Nostre)", na który trafiły kompozycje utrzymane w melancholijno-doomowej konwencji. Nowa płyta białostockiej załogi wydaje się dość logiczną kontynuacją debiutu, choć nie zabrakło tu kilku zaskakujących nowości.

Bazą muzyki Via Mistica jest gitarowa ściana, co jakiś czas przetykana delikatniejszymi dźwiękami akustycznych instrumentów, wiolonczeli... Nad całością góruje natomiast czysty i raczej spokojny śpiew Katarzyny. Gdzie więc zaskoczenie? Otóż grupie przestały wystarczać spokojne klimaty i postanowiła niekiedy popróbować brutalniejszych brzmień, uciekając nawet w rejony bliskie... black metalu, z szybkimi partiami perkusyjnymi i agresywnymi wokalami. Dominuje jednak klimat spokojny, rozmarzony, niekiedy niestety dość monotonny - ot nastrojowe granie, które jednym uchem wpada, a drugim wypada. Trzeba jednak przyznać, że o tandecie, czy miernocie nie może być mowy, ponieważ poziom aranżacyjny i wykonawczy jest tu wysoki. Po prostu przyzwoita płyta w swojej klasie, ale chyba raczej tylko dla miłośników starszego Theatre Of Tragedy i podobnych dźwięków. Innych słuchaczy może znudzić.

I jeszcze słów kilka o produkcji - białostocki Hertz słynie ostatnio z bardzo porządnych nagrań (np. Lux Occulta). Dlatego nieco zdziwiło mnie brzmienie "Fallen Angels", a szczególnie syntetyczne brzmienie perkusji (elektroniczny dźwięk tomów w muzyce metalowej to naprawdę lekka przesada) i produkcja gitar, które miejscami skutecznie zagłuszają pozostałe instrumenty. Na przyszłość przydałoby się odrobinę bardziej "źywe" brzmienie.

The VIA MISTICA debut Testamentum (In Hora Mortis Nostre) in 2003 had been a nice, yet overall pretty harmless Gothic Metal in the style of old THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. Fallen Angels now is the second effort of the sextet and the band from Białystok has made a big step forward. One point of critique on the debut had been that the keyboards often overshadowed the guitars, they definitely attacked this problem head on, because at times the band unleashes surprising heaviness, also in the rhythms.

The opener Angel Of Destiny starts very calm, before all of a sudden blastbeats enriched with keyboards shoot out, with Kaskas soprano and Mareks aggressive growls, everything very interesting and well woven together, so there wont be any boredom, but on the other hand it does not sound disjointed either, very nice! And even they still cite the old THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, the Norwegians a) havent been playing this style for a long time and b) they partly are a good bit heavier than the Northmen ever had been.

The double-bass and heavy guitars of an Aristea or Edge Of Darkness set very good contrasts to the slow Gothic Metal ŕ la Fallen Angels, Pray For Strength, to re-visit the blastbeats on Rise Of Resurrection before closing things off with piano and Kaskas vocals on Polish Upadłe Anioły.

I must say that VIA MISTICA have evolved quite a bit and through the added heaviness bring in a lot more dynamics than before, which for one reduces the THEATRE OF TRAGEDY parallels and for the other raises the tension within the songs, both factors that definitely speak in favour of VIA MISTICA. Basically the Poles are going beyond the usual Gothic Metal clichés nowadays, which leads to a recommendation to genre fans!
