Cudowna muzycznie płyta. Mamy na albumie IKON przepiękne damskie chórki, w tle gdzieś przelatują elektroniczne fleciki, a nawet przemykają kojące ucho breakbeaty. Klimatycznie album zbliża się do dokonań Zero 7. Ikon to projekt założony przez Alex Rizzo wespół z Elliot Ireland. Zaprosili na płytę mnóstwo gości, a nagranie materiału odbywało się w 7 różnych krajach. Bardzo charakterystycznym akcentem na płycie jest udział wokalistki Velerie Etienne, która została przedstawiona Elliotowi przez jego znajomego Ski Oakenful (znany na polskim rynku z płyt wydawanych w Sony Music). Valerie odnosiła potężne sukcesy wokalne jako wokalistka w acid jazzowym projekcie z lat 90-ych Galliano. Znana także z długoletniej współpracy z Jamiroquai na płycie IKON jest gwiazdą w samą w sobie. Bez jej udziału wokalnego album by nie miał tej klasy muzycznej. Polecam zacząć od pierwszych 3 nagrań. Wystarczy aby się albumem zachwycić.

Debiutancka płyta brytyjskiego duetu Ikon będzie się doskonale sprawdzała, niczym zdjęcia z wakacyjnych podróży. Elliot Ireland i Alex Rizzo zgromadzili na niej przeróżne gatunki muzyczne - od latino, przez house, chillout, jazz, bossa novę, aż po hip hop, ale nic w tym dziwnego skoro nagrywali ją w siedmiu różnych krajach. Zdołali także zaprosić zaskakująco dużą liczbę wokalistek - występują tu m.in.: Valerie Etienne (była wokalistka Galliano i żona Earla Zingera), Alison David współpracująca z Bugz In The Attic oraz Alison Limerick. Doskonała produkcja, dopracowane wokale, wymyślne aranżacje i zaskakujące efekty wprost spod palców turntablistów (np. skreczowanie płytą z dźwiękiem trąbki w singlowym "The Dove" czy brazylijskie drum'n'bassowe rytmy i wokal w "Vai E Vem") są największą zaletą tej płyty. Można być pewnym, że te muzyczne odbitki z wakacji będą nas cieszyć jeszcze przez dłuższy czas.

Finally "audiopharm" will release their 3rd artist album - the genius debut of the London located "IKON" project. This teamwork of all different kinds of vocalists, musicians, producers and DJ´s slightly reminds of the early, very soulful "Massive Attack". The album includes such great artists like "Valerie Etienne", the tremendous female singer of the 90´s Acid Jazz band "Galliano"(By the way - she has got a job doing the background vocals in the Jamiroquai live band at the moment), "Duncan Bridgeman" the flute player of "Giant Leap" and last but not least "Alison Limerick"--one of the most popular soulvoices of England who has worked with "The Style Council", "Incognito", and "This mortal coil".

As the main musical influence, Alex Rizzo and Elliot Ireland, the founders of "IKON" mentioned Jazz, Funk, Soul, and Hip-Hop and artists like "Herbie Hancock", "Roy Ayers", "Ian Pooley" and "Jazzanova"--and not to forget "EnnioMorricone" for his genius film soundscapes. If you imagine a mixture of all these elements you might know how the "IKON" sound works.

Anti-Corporate fervour?

What the hell is Ikon about? "Happy coincidences," opines co-founding member Alex Rizzo with a smile. Comprising of singers, musicians and producers, Ikon's self titled album project has been made in seven different countries and has eight different collaborations. "There was never a timeframe or a deadline. Many of us have been in dance music for a while, and I think that although it has brought great times for us there was definitely a feeling of tiredness with corporate parameters." Elliot Ireland, co-founder #2, is feeling reflective.

Rolf, your stylophone please

Ikon is about producing lush, imaginative music and recreating sounds in an original way. "Give us a keyboard a string, synth or computer- Rolf Harris's stylophone and we'll play it- the quirkier the better. If there's a sound we wanna emulate we'll try and get the original materials: like a 60s bass and a 60s mic to get the right effect." As for the Ikon sound it's tricky to categorise: bossa nova melodies seem to seep effortlessly into epic cinematic productions, which mutate into slick drum and bass rhythms: "Perhaps we're the phoenix that's risen from the ashes of dance- actually on second thoughts that makes us sound like a dodgy thrash band doesn't it?" ponders Alex Rizzo.
