Zack Hemsey (born 1983)[1] is an American recording artist, rapper and composer, whose work has been largely popularized through its use in films and film trailers. A notable example was "Trailer 3"[2] of the 2010 movie Inception which included his composed piece "Mind Heist"; it is a common misconception[3] that the piece for this trailer was composed by Hans Zimmer because Zimmer composed the official score for the movie itself. "Mind Heist" was also used for the introduction video for the video game Madden NFL 12 and is sometimes used by the show "America's Got Talent". Hemsey's music has also been used in trailers for 2 Guns, The Town, and Lincoln.[4] "Vengeance" was featured in the movie The Equalizer, in a trailer for the second season of the HBO program Game of Thrones, and the trailer for the 21st Century Fox miniseries "24: Live Another Day", the latter airing during the 2014 Super Bowl.[5]

Hemsey began his career as the composer for an obscure hip-hop group called Nine Leaves, where he was also one of five lyricists / MCs.[6] He began a solo career in 2010 with the release of "Empty Room" and has continued to independently release his own Epic Music studio albums and singles, all of which tend to combine elements of orchestral score, hip-hop, world instrumentation, and/or alternative/rock.[7]

Hemsey has written articles on a variety of subject matter, which he has published on his personal blog, Thoughts & Ramblings.[8] Topics have included MMA,[9] the birth of his child,[10] his opposition to releasing album singles,[11] Santa Claus,[12] studio acoustics,[13] his criticism of YouTube,[14][15][16] music piracy,[17] philosophical free will,[18] and even a research paper on a rare GBS infection that can occur in newborn babies,[19] among others.[20]
