Winsford railway station serves the town of Winsford in Cheshire, England on the West Coast Main Line), 7 12 miles (12 km) north of Crewe.

History

The station was opened in 1837 on the Grand Junction Railway.[1]:53

There have been two serious rail collisions near Winsford; the first in 1948 killed 24, the second in 1962 killed 18.

Future

The station was involved in plans by GNWR to accommodate services to Manchester, Blackpool and London by upgrading the station dramatically to a Parkway Station and lengthening the platforms, however in June 2014 these plans were axed by GNWR as it was not financially viable for them to do this, local councils are however opposing this as they see the development as a key feature to the town's and local area's economic regeneration.

Facilities

Winsford station was upgraded in winter 2010. The upgrade included the installation of help points and electronic arrival/departure boards as well as a departure monitor in the main building.

Services

The station is managed by London Midland, who provide services between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street. Trains call hourly in each direction throughout the week (except Sunday mornings), with a few extra calls at weekday peak times.[2]
