Willis Brewer

Willis Brewer (March 15, 1844 – October 30, 1912) was a U.S. Representative from Alabama.

Born near Livingston, Alabama, Brewer attended the common schools. He entered the Confederate States Army at the age of eighteen years. Journalist, author, and planter. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1870 and commenced practice at Haynesville, Alabama. Treasurer of Lowndes County in 1871. State auditor 1876-1880. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1880-1882. He served in the State senate 1882-1890. He was again a member of the State house of representatives 1890-1894. He again served in the State senate 1894-1897.

Brewer was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1897 – March 3, 1901). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1900. He resumed the practice of law and continued his work as an author until his death in Montgomery, Alabama, on October 30, 1912. He was interred in the family mausoleum on Cedars plantation, near Montgomery, Alabama.
