WXGL, known as "107.3 The Eagle - Tampa Bay's Classic Hits Station", is a radio station owned by Cox Media Group located on the FM dial at 107.3 in Tampa, Florida. The station plays rock-leaning classic hits, primarily from the 1980s and early to mid 1990s, with some late 1960s and 1970s songs, as well. The station's former callsigns were WWBA, WWRM, WCOF, and WBBY. Its studios are located in St. Petersburg, and the transmitter site is in Oldsmar.

"The Eagle" features at least 50 minutes of commercial-free music per hour every day, with a 107-minute "Eagle Commercial-Free Flight" every weekday morning starting at 8:30 AM. In addition, effective January 2014, "The Eagle" has presented a special playlist feature, "Triple Shot Thursdays," which plays blocks of music by core Eagle artists, from 8:30 AM until the evening every Thursday.

Personalities

Longtime area radio personality Nick Van Cleve, an alumnus of the old WYNF [2] (which is now WXGL sister station WWRM), hosts morning drive from 6-8:30 AM, prior to the "Commercial-Free Flight".

John Moore, the station's Music Director, hosts afternoon drive from 3-7 PM weekdays. Prior to launching as the first live voice on "The Eagle" in March 2004, Moore's radio career spanned 24 years in various markets and stations, most notably at Classic Rock 92.5 KZPS and Adult Alternative 93.3 "The Zone" in Dallas, Texas. Other career stops include afternoons at WQFM in Milwaukee, KCFX in Kansas City and as host of "Barnum & Bailey's Morning Circus" from 1989-1991 at KFMX in Lubbock, Texas. Moore's radio career began in 1985 at Classic Rock KMYZ in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Streaming

In addition to the Eagle website, streaming via the iHeartRadio website and smartphone app was available since summer 2012. Subsequently, a smartphone app solely for "The Eagle" was launched the following summer.[3] This app allows listeners to not only hear the station's stream, but access features such as: "Open Mic," which records up to ten seconds of a listener's voice and could be used for playback on-air, either in station promos or prior to song requests; "Alarm Clock", which automatically starts playing the station's stream at a time preset by the listener; and the opportunity to vote on songs in the station's playlist, including which song starts off the "Commercial-Free Flight" on the next weekday.
