Venetia Dearden

Venetia Dearden (born 1975) is a British photographer and filmmaker. She is noted for her first book, Somerset Stories, Fivepenny Dreams and for a solo exhibition of Glastonbury, Another Stage at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Biography

Dearden was born in Brecon, Wales, She grew up in Somerset.

She has an MA in Anthropology, Comparative Religion and History of Art from Edinburgh University (1998) and undertook postgraduate studies in Photojournalism at the London College of Printing (1999–2000). She is fluent in French and Spanish.

Her photographs of local families living close to the land first brought her work to international attention in 2008, on publication of her book Somerset Stories, Fivepenny Dreams.

She has contributed to various magazines since 2001 and has worked with various commercial and other clients. In 2011 Dearden undertook a two-year commission from Mulberry Ltd to shoot a book celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary.

Dearden is represented for photography by DS Reps in the USA and Webber Represents in UK and Europe. She is represented for film by Picture Farm Productions, New York. She was affiliated with VII Photo Agency from 2010 until 2014.

She is currently developing a film script and splits her time between her homes in London and Somerset where she lives with her husband Oliver Stroud.
