University of Toronto Karate Club

The University of Toronto Karate Club (UTKC) was founded in 1963 by Masami Tsuruoka (10th dan). It is the oldest Canadian university karate club.[1] The club trains in shotokan-style karate.

The club has been under the tutelage of Suenori Tominaga (8th dan) since 1970, during which time it has been home to numerous national champions and international competitors including Joy Ang, Josephine Chen, Steven Yap, Steven Watanabe and Jennifer Lee.[2]

The club's longstanding affiliations include Jinbukai Canada, the National Karate Association (NKA), and Karate Ontario (KO).[3]
