USN Submarine Base, Ordnance Island, Bermuda

US Navy Submarine Base, Ordnance Island. Ordnance Island, Bermuda, which sits near the King's Square, in St. George's, had gained its name as a Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) depot, supplying munitions to forts and batteries around the Colony. By the Second World War, it was no longer useful in this role, and the US Navy was allowed to use the Island from 1942 to 1945 as a submarine base.
