Tom Linebarger (born January 24, 1963) is an executive businessman in the diesel industry.[1]

Executive roles

Linebarger is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cummins Inc. – a role he has held since the beginning of 2012. Other leadership roles he has held at the firm prior to this include: Executive Vice President of Power Generation Business, President of Power Generation Business, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Supply Chain Management. He was also one of the 100 CEO leaders in STEM blog.[2]

His total compensation for 2012 was $4.65 million. He ranks Number 14 within Capital Goods.[3]

Education

Linebarger has joint undergraduate degrees in Management Engineering from Claremont McKenna College and Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. As well he has an MSc in Manufacturing Systems from the School of Engineering and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business.[4]

Employment history

Linebarger held very few other roles in the industry before resuming his current position at Cummins. He was: Investment Analyst and Investment Manager at Prudential Investment Corporation, and thereafter took up internship at Cummins. From there he worked up the ladder and joined the company full time in 1993. During this time he held a variety of roles including: Product Manager of Fuel Systems Plant (managing 60 members of staff). He enjoyed the “values, the people and the business challenges” at the firm.[5]

Boards

In 2008, Linebarger joined the Harley Davidson Board of Directors. He also sits on the Board at the Energy Systems Network. Linebarger is a principal of the American Energy Innovation Council.[6]

Personal data

Born in California, Linebarger is married to Michele. They have two daughters: Alex and Emily.[7] His philosophy is: “My personal values and what drives me every day are based in large part on three things that are most important to me: family, fun, and friendships; fairness and justice; and hard work."[8]
