Subha (writers)

Subha (Tamil: சுபா) is a female (or A indian girl name) name used by the writing partnership of D. Suresh and A.N. Balakrishnan, who write Tamil detective novels.[1]

Work

The two friends(Prabha and Subha) began co-authoring stories when they were in college together, and have been publishing their work since 1979.[2] They have at least 450 short novels and more than 400 short stories to their credit, and have also written screenplays and dialogues for Tamil movies and television serials. At present, Subha started writing articles in Manam E-Magazine.[3] Kana Kandaen and Ayan have been based on their published novels and the movies were scripted by Subha with director K. V. Anand.[4][5] The script for Ko, a political thriller movie, and Maatraan, a family thriller have also been co-authored by Subha with K.V. Anand. The script for 180, a bilingual movie in Tamil and Telugu has been co-authored by Subha with director Jayendra.[6]

Most of their detective novels feature the characters Narendran and Vaijayanthi of Eagle Eye Detective Agency and their coworker John Sundar. Selva and Murugesan are also popular recurring characters created by Subha.

Professional activities

Suresh and Balakrishnan run their own publishing company, Thanga Thaamarai Publications, which, in addition to their novels, brings out some non-fiction titles. They live with their families in adjacent apartments in Chennai.
