The Hung Hom Halls of Residence, the first student hall of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was established in 2002. It comprises nine individual halls, and the 22-storey building accommodates about 3,000 students.[1]

G/F

The ground floor is home to the Hall Reception as well as entrances to the west and east wings of the building. Students must scan their home keys to pass through gates to gain access to the stairwell and lifts. The Facilities Management Office is located in the carpark also on the ground floor.

1/F

The first floor is accessible from stairs beside the wing entrances and is integrated in the elevated footbridge system. Students can easily access the Hong Kong Community College, Whampoa District, MTR Hunghom Station, and PolyU from this floor. Residence key scan gates are present at lift lobbies, similar to the ground floor. The student dining hall and function rooms are found on the first floor.

2/F

The second floor contains most of the student facilities. The exhibition hall contains table tennis tables and contains many couches and tables for students to socialize. The floor contains a fitness room, game room, reading room, computer room, dance room, activity room, snooker room, meditation room, piano rooms, and study room. A landscaped garden and a 25-meter swimming pool open to the outside are present as well. Many of these facilities requires a reservation to use.

3/F-20/F

The Residence has 9 Halls altogether. The top-most floors are Boyan Hall is for Research Postgraduate students only. The other halls are Kaiyuan Hall, Wuhua Hall, Chengde Hall, Wuxian Hall, Lizhi Hall, Lisheng Hall, Minyin Hall and Xuemin Hall are for undergraduates, with Xuemin Hall designated for female residents only. Each hall consists of two floors, each equipped with a kitchen, laundry and dryer machine, and dinner table. On the bottom of the two floors a common area is found containing an assortment of furnishings such as chairs tables, TV's, karaoke systems, and convenience machines. All student rooms are equipped with LAN ports, air-conditioners & furniture and designed for double occupancy, with toilet and shower facilities shared by 4 students.

Student Life

Security is very present at the Hung Hom Halls as entrance to stairwells and lift lobbies are under 24h surveillance and require key card entrance. All floors and hallways are equipped with CCTV cameras. Each student room is locked through keycards.

Each hall contains their own student body of representatives that organize intra- and inter-hall activities.
