Stephen Hartgen is a Republican Idaho State Representative since 2008 representing District 23 in the B seat.[1][2] Hartgen is the son of artist Vincent Andrew Hartgen.
Education and career
Hartgen earned his bachelor's degree in history from Amherst College, his master's in American history from Brandeis University, and his doctorate in American history from the University of Minnesota. Hartgen is a business consultant and a former editor and publisher of the Times-News.
Elections
- 2012 Redistricted to 24B, Hartgen was unopposed for the May 15, 2012, Republican primary and won with 2,932 votes; he faces Democratic nominee Rosemary Fornshell[3] for the November 6, 2012, general election to succeed Republican Representative Sharon Block, who is not seeking re-election.
- 2008 When District 23 Republican Senator Tom Gannon died after the 2008 primary election, Republican Representative Bert Brackett was allowed to replace him on the general election ballot; since Brackett had been unopposed in the primary, Hartgen was allowed to replace Brackett on the general election ballot for 23B; Hartgen won the November 4, 2008, general election with 9,951 votes (64.8%) against Mike Ihler (D).[4]
- 2010 Unopposed in the May 25, 2010, Republican primary, Hartgen won with 3,881 votes;[5] he won the November 2, 2010, general election with 7,496 votes (68.4%) against Bill Chisholm (D).[6]
