Sheila on 7 is an alternative rock band from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. They have changed their lineup several times since their formation on 6 May 1996. Their first lineup consisted of Akhdiyat Duta Modjo (Vocals), Saktia Ari Seno (Guitar), Eross Candra (Guitar), Adam Muhammad Subarkah (Bass) and Anton Widiastanto (Drum). Their current lineup (2006) consists of Akhdiyat Duta Modjo (Vocal), Adam Muhammad Subarkah (Bass), Eross Candra (Guitar) and Brian Kresno Putro (Drums).
Their self-titled debut album Sheila on 7 was ranked #33 by Rolling Stone Indonesia on "The 150 Greatest Indonesian Albums of All Time".[1] The magazine also listed the songs "Dan" (#29) and "Melompat Lebih Tinggi" (#147) on "The 150 Greatest Indonesian Songs of All Time".[2]
Sheila on 7 is the first ever band in Indonesia with their first 3 albums sold more than 1 million copies in Indonesia only, with Kisah Klasik Untuk Masa Depan ranked #8 on the list of Indonesian all time best selling albums.
History
Starting from Adam and Sakti which has a band called " W.H.Y Gank " invites Duta to join their band practice to be a vocalist. Duta been chosen with the story of Adam that Adam and Duta is a subscription Indonesian Independence Day performers early in their housing complex, Duta as singer and Adam play acoustic guitar.[3]
But in 2004, they have to part with Anton (drummer) due to not disciplined by his manager. It was then Brian came as an additional player to fill the position left by drummer Anton. Brian performed with Sheila On 7 in different promo tour for the album Pejantan Tangguh. The Very Best of Sheila On 7 (2005) album became the first studio recording career alongside Brian Sheila On 7 as an additional drummer.
In 2006, Sheila On 7 also had to part with Sakti because he resigned in the middle of the recording process of the album 507 because of the desire to continue their education to Pakistan unstoppable . However, during the process of recording the album 507 was exactly Sheila On 7 finally lifted Brian became drummer Sheila On 7 until now.
Musical style
Until today, they are still difficult to name the colors of what music is actually played. But one thing is clear is that they are believed to play a "Sheila music", where ideas or creations in music emerged spontaneously and displaying the lyrics are easy to digest and simple music concept.
