"She's Tight" is a single by the American rock band Cheap Trick which appeared on the album One on One, and was written by lead guitarist Rick Nielsen. The single was released in 1982 and peaked at #65 in the US. The single was less successful than the previous release "If You Want My Love".

History

The single was released on 7" vinyl only.[1] Different artwork was used for the Dutch release.[2]

The b-side "All I Really Want to Do" was a non-LP track, exclusive to the single, written solely by Rick Nielsen. It would later appear on the 1996 box-set "Sex, America, Cheap Trick" under the title "All I Really Want".[3]

Both tracks were produced by Roy Thomas Baker who had also produced the entire "One on One" album.[4]

A music video was created for the single, airing frequently on MTV,[5] and features several references to the Rod Stewart "Hot Legs" video.

A mimed performance of the song was performed on the show Laugh Trax in 1982, along with the song "Saturday at Midnight".[6][7]

The single remains one of the most well-known tracks from the album and also appears on numerous greatest hits compilations.

A live version was recorded for the 2001 live set "Silver". Both this track and "If You Want My Love" featured bassist Jon Brant rejoining Cheap Trick on stage.[8]

Critical reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic described the song as being "good and sleazy."[9]

Allmusic.com picks the track as an AMG recommended track.[10]

Christopher Connelly of Rolling Stone Magazine described the song as a "spirited, though moderated, rocker," and remarked on the similarity of the song's guitar part to Eddie Cochran's "Somethin' Else."[11]

John Serba describes it as his all-time favorite Cheap Trick song, praising the keyboard and guitar riffs (which he claims "would rot Elvis Costello’s teeth"), the beat, and the call and response.[12]

In a review of the 2001 live album "Silver", allmusic.com mentioned the track, writing "Standouts include two standards of early MTV ("If You Want My Love" and "She's Tight")."[13]

In the 2007 book "Shake Some Action: The Ultimate Power Pop Guide", a section on Cheap Trick featured reviews on the top 20 stand-out tracks from the band. One track included was "She's Tight", where the author John M. Borack wrote "Guitar riffs don't come any simpler than this one, but the keyboard squiggles, horny lyrics and head-bobbing rhythms on this one (from the underrated "One on One") are undeniably fun."[14]
