Sayako

Sayako (小夜子, Sayako) is a fictional character appearing in the Japanese crossover supernatural horror film Sadako vs. Kayako, formed from Sadako Yamamura (antagonist of the Ring series) and Kayako Saeki (central character of the Ju-on franchise) being merged as one entity. She is portrayed by Mizuki Yamamoto.

Origin story (within the film)

Keizo Tokiwa (Masanobu Ando), a man with psychic powers, has three collaborators - Yuri Kurahashi (Mizuki Yamamoto), Suzuka Takagi (Tina Tamashiro), and his psychic girl companion Tamao (Mai Kikuchi) - and Yuri and Suzuka is afflicted by both Sadako and Kayako's curses. To expunge the jinxes, one of them must jump into Sadako's well so that both ghosts will also follow that girl in, while another seals it, trapping the three inside the well forever. Yuri sacrifices herself as she decides to be the one who lures Sadako and Kayako inside the well.

As they finalize the plan, Sadako and Kayako appear. Yuri jumps into the well while the two ghosts rush toward her. Sadako and Kayako collide, creating an explosion that tears Keizo in two, while protecting Tamao. Sadako and Kayako's collision also fuses the two ghosts into a huge contorting mass of hair, flesh, and eyes to form Sayako.

Sayako follows Yuri into the well and possesses her. Sayako (in the body of Yuri) is then trapped inside the well when Suzuka seals it. The seal is suddenly ripped off, however, and Yuri - who is possessed by Sayako - emerges from it. Yuri's body and soul are now Sayako's physical reincarnation, and her curse lives on.

Spiritual form

Before she fell into the well and possessed Yuri, she was a huge contorting mass of hair, flesh, and eyes.

In Tamao's supernatural vision

Tamao sees Sayako as a dark creature surrounded by an immense evil aura in the form of hair.

Physical form

Since Yuri's body is her vessel, she has Sadako's long hair, wearing Sadako's clothes, and has Kayako's face, contorted movement, and death rattle.

Powers and abilities

Since Sadako and Kayako fused with each other and created her, she is now considered a stronger entity since she can use any of Sadako and Kayako's supernatural abilities. The 21 ghostly powers that she can use are the following:

• Demigod powers, associated with water (Sadako since she is the daughter of a demonic sea god, not shown in the film)

• Teleportation (Both)
• Duplication (Both, not shown in the film)
• Can manifest in human form even as an onryō (Both, not shown in the film)
• Can reenact their murders through their victims (Kayako, not shown in the film)
• Can have their curses manifest in other forms (Sadako, not shown in the film)
• Can resist exorcism (Sadako)
• Can imprison other ghosts (Sadako when she dragged Toshio into the television)
• Can come out of small holes or reflective surfaces (Both, not shown in the film)
• Can emit eerie, ear-destroying high-pitched sounds (Sadako)

In total, Sayako has 27 ghostly and destructive powers that she can inherit from both Sadako and Kayako.

Curse

A person can now be afflicted by Sayako's unified curse either by watching Sadako's cursed videotape, entering the bounds of the Saeki family house curse, or by doing both at the same time.
