Rudeboy Paul

Mvulane Mnisi, better known as Rudeboy Paul, is a famous South African DJ at YFM, a Johannesburg radio station aimed at young listeners. The station mostly plays R&B, hip-hop and kwaito, but also African dance music and Jazz. Rudeboy Paul is one of YFM's most popular DJs.

Career

He started at YFM when he was 18, and now is the co-host of the popular program Kamikaze Heat.

He is also a regular performer at the Politburo Sessions, where traditional African music is mixed with modern urban music. He also is a sponsor of Poets in da House, which promotes young, talented South Africans in both the performing and creative arts.

Mnisi is also a member of YWorld, the network of artists that appear on YFM. YWorld describes kwaito as "a take on House Music", a "genre ... mixed with R&B, Hip Hop, Classic Jams, House and Ragga" , which is exactly what Mnisi, aka Rudeboy Paul, does in his songs.

Mnisi has used historic tracks like Solomon Linda's "Mbube" and modern riffs from artists like Zim Ngqawana as the basis for dance mixes. He uses fast, compelling rhythm, taken from House Music, coupled with live raps based on hip-hop.[1]

Discography

Rudeboy Paul's last album, called "The Second Offering", was released in 2006.
