Robert James Jonker

Robert James Jonker (born 1960) is the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

Born in Holland, Michigan, Jonker received a B.A. from Calvin College in 1982 and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1985. He was a law clerk, Hon. John F. Feikens, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan from 1985 to 1987. He was in private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1987 to 2007.

On March 19, 2007, Jonker was nominated by President George W. Bush to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan vacated by Gordon J. Quist. Jonker was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 9, 2007, and received his commission on July 16, 2007. He became Chief Judge in 2015.
