Launched February 8, 1997 (1997-02-08) is an Indian news, information, entertainment and shopping web portal, founded in 1996[3] as "Rediff On The NeT".[4] It is headquartered in Mumbai, with offices in Bangalore, New Delhi and New York City.[5]

According to Alexa,[6] is the No. 24 Indian web portal.[7] It has more than 316 employees.[8] 89.1% of the millions of visitors[9] to are from India, while the rest come primarily from the USA (3.4%) and China.[10] In April 2001, acquired and began offering India Abroad.[11] As of February 2011, it ranked 295 on Alexa.[12] was the first website domain name registered in India in 1996.[13]

In 2001, was alleged to be in violation of the Securities Act for filing materially false prospectus in relation to an IPO of its American depositary shares.[14]
