RAN is an Indonesian pop and R&B group from Jakarta. The group consists of Rayi Putra Rahardjo (Rayi), Astono Handoko (Asta) and Anindyo Baskoro (Nino). Currently, the group already releasing four studio albums: For Your Life (2008), Friday (2009), HOP3 (2011) and Hari Baru (2013).

History

Formation and early career

The group formed in Jakarta in 2007. Initially, Rayi and Asta started playing music together since their highschool days in Al-Azhar at Pondok Labu, Cilandak, South Jakarta. Together with their friends, they had formed a band called F.R.D. (Funk Rap Disco) and won various band competitions for inter-schools events. After graduating high school , the band had to go into vacuum due to some personal reasons in continuing their studies abroad. When joining the 2006 Indonesian Song Festival held by JakTV, they hooked Nino, a junior from highschool to join the band. The single "Pandangan Pertama" won second prize at the festival. This song also introduced the group to a producer Dondy Soedjono. And then handed it to Universal Music Indonesia.

2008-2009: For Your Life and Friday

After the label signed RAN in 2008 and the group released "Pandangan Pertama" as their first single. The single making to the group became popularity as newcomer and success earning nominations for Best R&B Production Work at the 12th Annual Anugerah Musik Indonesia. The group’s debut album For Your Life was released. It received generally positive reviews. Following success for first single, the group releasing second single "Selamat Pagi". It also became to advertising jingle for XL Liburan Rame.

The group’s second album Friday was released on March 2009. The first single "Jadi Gila" was released and returning getting to successfully in Indonesian charts song and "T.G.I Friday" managing to be hits in several Indonesian radio stations and earning a awards for Best Urban Production Work at the 13th Annual Anugerah Musik Indonesia. "Ratu Lebah" was took became to original soundtrack for film Queen Bee. The group were returning earning a achievement: Favorite Duo/Group in two consecutive years (2009 and 2010) at the Nickelodeon Indonesia Kids' Choice Awards.

2011-2015: HOP3 and Hari Baru

In 2011, the group returning releasing third studio albums HOP3 and producing the first single "Mencuri Hati" as opening single. Second single "Sepeda" was released and manage entering to several Indonesian charts song. The music video also earning a awards for Best Music Video at the 2011 KLIK! Awards. For "Kulakukan Semua Untukmu" has released recycling for R&B version, previously were popularized by two Indonesian singers Fatur and Nadila in 90’s era. In middle 2011, the R&B group sang "Tentang Kita" which became a filling to compilation album from Indonesian rock band KLa Project, entitled A Tribute to KLa Project. Two years later, the group launching fourth studio albums Hari Baru in late 2013 in digitally and a few day later, releasing a physically album.[1] Previously had releasing three other singles, "Hari Baru", "Kita Bisa" which collaboration with Indonesian jazz singer Tulus and "Begitu Saja" which to be closing single. At the 13th FEUI Cup, the group appointed to performed for "Andai Dia Tahu", "Begitu Saja", "Dekat Di Hati", etc. in Tribeca Park, Central Park Mall. In late 2015, Mnet Asian Music Awards awarding the group as Best Asian Artist (Indonesia) in Hong Kong.[2]

2016-present: Upcoming their fifth studio albums

In May 20, RAN releasing the first single "Ombak Asmara" in digital. Produced by themselves, the group revealed that the single inspiration from their respective experience during vacation in countries.[3] The fifth studio album was announced released in late 2016.
