Pure Cycles was founded in 2010, by University of Wisconsin students, Michael Fishman, Austin Stoffers, and their childhood friend, Jordan Schau, studying at the Columbia University. Pure Cycles (then Pure Fix Cycles) began as a manufacturer and online dealer of fixed gear/single speed bicycles and has since expanded to offer several bicycles styles available online, from dealers worldwide, and at their own flagship retail location in Burbank.

History

At school in Madison, Wisconsin four friends just wanted some basic bikes at a decent price. So they started making them. Soon their lightweight, no-frills, no-brakes, fixed-gear (or "fixie") bikes were in such demand they couldn't make enough. Pure [Cycles], now based in L.A., sells 25,000 bikes a year in dozens of colors. Sales surpassed $4 million in 2012 and earned the founders a place in Forbes "30 under 30".[1] two years in a row[2]

The company was also one of the first in the bike industry to embrace glow in the dark paint to improve night time visibility of riders, receiving accolades from Business Insider,[3] Gizmodo,[4] the New York Times,[5] and others.
