Pteleos (Greek: Πτελεός) is a village and a former municipality in the southern part of Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Almyros, of which it is a municipal unit.[2] The municipal unit has an area of 118.230 km2.[3] Population 2,485 (2011). It contains several beaches, as well as a plethora of beach-bars, taverns, restaurants, bars and night clubs.
The area has been populated already since the prehistoric times and the name Pteleos is mentioned in Homer's Iliad. Current archaeological sites include the Venetian Castle close to Pigadi, several tombs from the Mycenean period between Pteleos and Aghioi Theodoroi and several small churches, the oldest of which was built in the 13th century. The population's main professions include tourism, agriculture and fishing.
