Priyan (cinematographer)

Priyan, a skilled cine technician who comes from a family without any cinema background. The world of cinema adopted him and now he is a leading cinematographer of the south Indian Film Industry. He is officiating for the past 25 years in the cinema Industry where he captured most of the leading stars through his camera but he kept himself out of the lime-light.

Early life

He is basically from virudhunagar whose father was an educationist. His uncle Ganesan was a D.S.P. in Chennai. While he was doing an industrial course, he spent his time with his uncle during a summer vacation in Chennai. He was so talkative about cinema affairs. Having noticed his interest on cinema, his uncle joined him with his friend K. Balaji, an artist cum producer. He started working in K.Balaji's camera unit and the way he worked with Sujatha International for 5 years as a camera assistant.

Career

He started successfully with a famous project of Balu Mahendra'S 'MOONDRAM PIRAI' ‘SABNA’ in Hindi version which fetched 2 National Awards for the year 1982. He learned a lot with Director Balu Mahendra and so he continued being a part of his films such as OLANGAL, YATHRA, NEENGAL KAETTAVAI. Then he got a rare opportunity to work with MANI RATNAM's PAGAL NILAVU & NAYAGAN. He enjoyed his days with such Maestro Directors' units as not only an Asst. Cameraman but also like an Asst. Director. Then he tied with Rajiv Menon's unit for some of the Ad films and for the Blockbuster movie - BOMBAY. Moving then with Suresh Menon's couple of movies, he also undertook some of the TV Serials under him. As a complete Cinematographer, he started with Pazha.Karuppaiah's VAA VAA VASANDHAME. But K.S. Adiyaman's THOTTAAL SINUNGI was released first. Then he worked with CHERAN for PORKAALAM, DESIYA GEETHAM, VETRIKKODI KATTU.

He was renamed into PRIYAN from his original name NAGENDRAN by Director Cheran. While he was working for BHAARATHI KANNAMMA, he got related to Director HARI with whom he worked for the films THAMIZH to the latest SINGAM - II.

Overall he worked for 27 movies and few ad films in his tremendous career. His recent highlight work is the coverage from a Helicopter capturing ships in South Africa for singam II.
