PolyVision is a company that manufactures CeramicSteel surfaces for applications such as whiteboards, chalkboards, architectural surfaces and panels, and infrastructure projects.[1][2] It is a subsidiary of Steelcase and is headquartered in Johns Creek, Georgia.[2]

Company overview

PolyVision was founded in 1954 under the name Information Display Technology, Inc. In May 1995, Information Display Technology, Inc. began operating under the name PolyVision. They began by manufacturing Greensteel brand chalkboards and currently manufacture CeramicSteel writing and architectural surfaces for chalkboards, whiteboards, projection boards, public spaces, and interior applications.[2][3]

PolyVision has production facilities in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Genk, Belgium and sales offices in Delhi and Hong Kong. PolyVision employs 200 people worldwide.[4]

Mergers and acquisitions

In 1998, PolyVision purchased Alliance International Group, a manufacturer of CeramicSteel products, for a total of $75.8 million.[1]

PolyVision acquired Nelson Adams, a designer and supplier of visual display products, in August 1999.[3]

On January 21, 2000, PolyVision purchased both American Chalkboard and Peninsular Slate.[5] In May 2000, PolyVision acquired Ibid, a division of MicroTouch Systems that manufactures interactive whiteboards.[6][7] PolyVision also acquired exclusive rights to Pixid software in May 2000, which was later incorporated into their CopyCam software. 8] [8]

PolyVision became a subsidiary of Steelcase in August 2001 when Steelcase bought the company for $176 million, which included approximately $103 million of debt.[9] In 2012, it was announced that PolyVision’s educational technology products would become part of the Steelcase Education Solutions group.[10]

Projects

PolyVision has created architectural surfaces for facilities such as Logan International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Tan Kah Kee Station, and the De Brouckère Metro Station.[11]

Other awards

PolyVision's Genk facility was the first European CeramicSteel manufacturer to earn a Cradle-to-Cradle certification for its environmentally sustainable practices.[18]
