Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001
Poland was represented by Piasek, with the song "2 Long", at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 12 May in Copenhagen. The song was chosen internally by broadcaster TVP and marked Poland's return after an enforced one-year absence due to relegation after the 1999 contest. "2 Long" was the first Polish entry performed in English.
At Eurovision
On the night of the final Piasek performed 18th in the running order, following Slovenia and preceding Germany. Prior to the contest the song had been largely dismissed as a dated and derivative sub-Motown effort and Poland's weakest entry to date by some distance. The strange styling of Piasek and his backing singers was also heavily criticised – Piasek appeared on stage wearing a tatty fur jacket, which he cast onto the stage after singing the first verse for a reason which was non-apparent from the lyrical content of the song. At the close of voting "2 Long" had received only 11 points (5 from Germany, 3 from Slovenia, 2 from Sweden and 1 from Denmark), placing Poland 20th of the 23 entries. The 12 points from the Polish televote were awarded to contest winners Estonia.[1]

The low placement of "2 Long" meant that Poland was again relegated and did not take part in the 2002 contest.
