Päiviö Tommila

Juhani Päiviö Tommila (4 August 1931 in Jyväskylä), is a Finnish historian and professor at Helsinki University.[1][2]

Päiviö Tommila became PhD in 1962 with his dissertation La Finlande dans la politique européenne en 1809–1815. He was assistant at the university of Helsinki 1959-65 and associate professor 1962-67. Tommila was professor in Finlands history at the University of Turku 1965-76 and professor in Finlands history at Helsinki University 1976-94.[1][2]

Tommila has focused on Finnish history, foremost its political history in the 19th century, urban and journalistic history, and also historiography.[1]

He is an Academician, a member of the Academy of Finland since 2004.[3]

His father is Eero Tommila, professor for chemistry at Helsinki University.
