Oliver James Palmer (born 21 January 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for League Two side Leyton Orient.
Career
Palmer attended Therfield School between the years 2003–2008 before progressing through the youth and reserve setup at Woking, becoming a prolific scorer in the process, Ollie was selected for the England Colleges National Team in 2010,[2] he signed a first team contract in August of that year. He subsequently had a loan spell St Albans City before returning to Kingfield.[3] Having not started a game for the first team, but making numerous appearances from the bench, On 17 May 2011 Palmer signed a new one-year deal.[4]
Havant and Waterlooville
Part way through a loan spell at Boreham Wood, Palmer signed with Havant & Waterlooville from Woking in September 2011.[5] Palmer having already scored 7 goals in 5 games by October 2011 had not gone unnoticed, League One side Charlton were keeping tabs on him[6] and in March 2012, Premier League side Chelsea were reported to be scouting Palmer.[7]
He went on to score 37 goals in 69 games in two seasons. While at Havant & Waterlooville Palmer was both top scorer and 'Player of the Year' in the Conference South in the 2012–13 season, bagging 25 goals for The Hawks, and awarded the Golden Boot.[8]
Mansfield Town
He joined League Two newcomers Mansfield Town in August 2013 on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee.[9][10] Palmer went on to score Mansfield's first league goal on their return to The Football League, scoring the only goal in a 1–0 win at Wycombe Wanderers.[11]
Loan to Grimsby Town
On 5 January 2015, Palmer joined Conference Premier side Grimsby Town on an initial one-month loan.[12] On 17 January 2015, he scored on his Conference Premier debut, an equalising 18-yard half volley drive into the top corner, in the 3–1 victory against the current league leaders Barnet.[13] On 27 January 2015, he scored the crucial goal, beating play-off hopefuls Eastleigh 0–1, after chasing down and catching defender Jamie Turley in possession at the left corner flag, Palmer then curled the ball past the keeper into the far corner off the post, giving the Mariners a 37th-minute lead.[14]
On 30 January 2015, after scoring 2 goals in 3 league appearances, Mansfield agreed to extend his loan until 25 April 2015.[15][16] Palmer missed a month due to a hamstring injury.[17] He then returned to action in the starting eleven on 7 March 2015 against Woking, scoring in the 41st minute, a poor header away fell to Craig Disley, he volleyed goalwards with his left, the keeper spilled it and Palmer followed it through from the right side of the six-yard box to the top right corner, to give Grimsby the lead, the gaming finishing 1–2 to the Mariners.[18]
On 3 May 2015, Palmer scored a brace in the play-off semi-final second leg against Eastleigh, the first came in the 35th minute, Lenell John-Lewis holding up the ball, but as he falls in the box he manages to knock the ball into the path of the onrushing Palmer who skilfully turned midfielder Will Evans with a left footed shot from the left side of the box to the top right corner; he scored the 3rd goal of the game in the 71st minute, again Lenell John-Lewis does well to turn the last defender, but he is tackled and knocks it into the on rushing Palmer's path who drills a right footed shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner to make it 3–0, the goal sealed the victory and a promotion final at Wembley.[19]
Leyton Orient
On 6 July 2015, Palmer signed for League Two side Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract.[20] He made his debut as a late substitute on the opening day of the season, coming on for Paul McCallum in the 2–0 home win over Barnet,[21] and scored his first goal for the club in the 3–0 win over Stevenage on 18 August, beating defender Dean Wells to slot past Chris Day.[22]

Personal life
Palmer's father spent 20 years as personal bodyguard to the heir to the throne, Charles, Prince of Wales.[29]
