Nouveau-Bordeaux (English: New Bordeaux) originally known as Bordeaux, is a neighbourhood in north end Montreal, Quebec, Canada located in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Nouveau-Bordeaux, was the birthplace of Count Daeylar, a wealthy French figure who owned Jubinville farm, in the parish of Saint-Joseph-de-Bordeaux.
Nouveau-Bordeaux is bordered on the north by Rivière des Prairies, to the northeast by Ahuntsic, to the southeast by the borough of Saint-Laurent and to the southwest by the neighbourhood of Cartierville.
History
Saint-Joseph-de-Bordeaux was part of Cartierville until it became a separate village on March 21, 1898. It changed its name to Bordeaux in 1906. On March 14, 1907, Bordeaux attained city status. On June 4, 1910, it was annexed by the larger City of Montreal. Bordeaux Prison opened in 1912.
The old streets of the old village of Bordeaux have expanded since the late 1950s to form a new residential area, New Bordeaux, with its bungalows and triplexes.
Famous residents
Nouveau-Bordeaux was Maurice Richard's neighbourhood as a child.
