Narora is located on the banks of river Ganges, in district Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh. A nuclear power plant is located in its vicinity.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,^[1] Narora had a population of 20,376. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Its average literacy rate is 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%, with male literacy 65% and female literacy 49%. In Narora, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. People here are very friendly and welcoming. Every religion has its mark in Narora with Hindus in dominance.

Industries

Narora is home to one of the nation's network of nuclear power plants, operated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. Its twin reactors (2X220 MW) are Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor(PHWR)-Type reactors, which operate on natural uranium as fuel and heavy water as the moderator-cum-primary coolant. This is one of the reactors for which fuel would be procured from U.S.A. under the '123 Nuclear Treaty' signed by the Governments of India and the United States of America in October 2008.There are several brick kilns in vicinity of Naraora employing close to thousand people. A chilling plant is also situated at 2 km from the city centre. Narora. Narora also houses the circle office of Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department. It operates and maintains the canals bifurcating from the main river ganga. There are more than 4 banks in the region viz. State Bank of India (having 3 branches), Punjab National Bank and a co-operative bank. Narora is also witnessing the light of urbanization with every passing day. Many Showrooms have come up in the recent years like SWARAJ MAZDA TRACTORS,TVS BIKES&SCOOTERS,HERO MOTO CORP. to name a few. All this has made the purchasing of two-wheelers very convienent and comfortable as against they were supposed to go and buy from Aligarh, Babrala OR Dibai.

Places of interest

Narora has several bathing locations or steps (Ghats) for holy dip in the Ganges. The view from Narora Dam is very scenic. The modern residential colony of the staff of Narora Atomic Power Plant, (NAPS), is just near the dam. Its statue and parks are also worth a visit. Belon-wali Mata mandir (Temple of Mother-goddess) is just 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Narora. The nearest railway station is Rajghat Narora which is 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Narora. The nearest bus station is 500 metres (1,600 ft) from Narora. For holy dip in the Ganges several ghats are Rajghat, Karnvaas, Narvar, Kalakatti, Ramghat etc. Dolphins are seen between a 160 kilometres (99 mi) stretch in the upper part of the Ganges between Bijnor and Narora Barrage. At Narvar, situated back side of NAPS colony, there is Sanskrit college named Sangved Sanskrit Mahavidya. There are many parks for recreation but the park of considerable importance and significance is NAPS Stadium. It is one of the largest stadiums in Dist. Bulandshahr and witnessed every sports being played there. The NAPS staff colony also consists of a 4-star VIP Guest House which is just another important landmark in Narora. Several dignitaries,VIPs, VVIPs,bureaucrats, senior politicians etc. have stayed there.

Sanskrit Mahavidyala Narwar Narora

Sri Sangaved Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya was started by Brahmasri Jiwan Datt ji Maharaj in the year 1903 well-known throughout Uttar-Pradesh as a great Bramanista parayana under the inspiration of his great guru who was well-known all over India as an authority on Vedas and whose name was Brahmasri Bhimsen Misra Veda Vyakhyata. Pt. Bhimsen Mishra was contemporary of Sri Swami Dayananda of Arya Samaj. But later on Pt. Bhimsen Mishra had written several commentaries on books pertaining to Sanathan Dharma specially his book on Shodasa Sanskaras is considered as authority by almost all scholars of India Pt. Jiwan Dutt Bhramchari ji dedicated all his life for the cause of the above-mentioned Vidyalaya and had earned for him the name of a Great Rishi of Modern India. Several scholars of reputed in Uttar Pradesh graduated from this Vidyalaya the most notable among them being Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya Maharaj Sri Krishna Bodhashramji of Jyotir Math and most Reverend Sri Karapatri ji Maharaj, Sri Jwala Dutt Bramachariji.
